Would you own....GTO, WS6?

What car would you rather own. Not sure which one is faster either, but in my opinion, a WS6 looks way better.

The WS-6 for a couple reasons. First one is the LS2 is a new engine and the quirks may not be worked out of it. The WS-6 is a proven engine, trannys, chassis, suspension and the quirks would be worked out of it. I like the looks better of the WS-6. I am a big fan of the GM F-Body cars. I prefer the last of the Camaros but the WS-6 would be fine.

Re: Would you own....GTO, WS6?

Supposedly the GTO is 400HP/400TQ and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds...

But if it's pure speed...then the WS6...

If it's best all arounder...I think maybe you gotta give it to the GTO for being able to more comfortable...not that you really look 4 that in a 2+2 sports car but eh...

WS6. I love the F-Body's chassis and suspension design, and the LS1 is a rock solid motor. Plus, the 4th gen. Firebird is one of the best looking cars to ever come out of Detroit.

No doubt the WS6 all the way. It looks sooooooooooooooo much more aggressive than the GTO and well lets face it, the GTO is just a Holden GTS coupe (an australian car by the way ), even the engine specs are almost the same. Plus if i was gonna buy a GTO i'd want it to be something that is pure American muscle not a borrowed design. Meh, thats my view anyway.

WS6 all the way, in a few years, it will be my next vehicle, I love GM F-Bodies, and the WS6, is the sexiest looking car in it's class.

I'd only take the GTO for it's Interior, or if I was older.

Re: Would you own....GTO, WS6?

My uncle has a 98 WS6 super fast, even though its an AT, and I like it way more than the new GTO.

The 700R4/4L60E that GM puts in the F-Bodies are tough trannies. Just add a cooler, servoes, springs, shift kit, and some other goodies you have great tranny for putting power to the ground. Also the autos run a faster 1/4 mile time and are more consistent then the manual transmissions.

GM was selling the V6 Camaro/Firebirds at about a ratio of 3:1, compared to the flagship Z28 Camaro/ Trans AM Firebird, GM built MORE Z28/T/A's then V6's, and the Z28/T/A's werent selling. GM was just losing money..

(I didnt mention the SS/WS6 because they were built by an "independant" company)

The LS1 and LS1 based engines had CSK issues but ones that weren't effected too badly or at all are great engines.

Money. Plain and simple. Its the same reason they nixed the B-body. Some would debate that it was a poor decision, but I would call it hasty. They could have easily stretched them out a few more years, but the fact is, very little had changed in the F- and B-body lines for thirty years on the fundamental level. Leave 'em wanting more was their philosophy and it worked pretty well.

To answer the question, I would go WS6. The same or more car for less money.

Isn't true that they can never use the Camaro/Firebird name anymore, under some Canadian ruling?

So if they ever build it again they can't use the Camaro name, right?

Re: Would you own....GTO, WS6?

I'm splitting from the majority and going for the GTO. The LS2 is an evolution of the LS1 and hence is better, that's reason #1. I'm guessing that the Firebird uses the awful-to-use Tremec T56 as well.

Secondly the assembly quality/quality of materials used in the GTO makes the WS6 look like a Yugo by comparison.

The GTO is also more comfortable, has a usable backseat and big boot (Hence is practical).

The handling is a lottery. While the F Body has a theoretically superior Front suspension (Double Wishbone over the GTO's Mac Struts), the GTO can counter with a Semi-trailing arm rear end, as opposed to the crude Live rear axle of the F Body and it certainly is better to drive than an F Body, though can be a bastard with understeer when it wants to be.

Styling? I'll choose the GTO's clean lines over the Firebird which seems to have spoilers and bodykits going everywhere, which spoilt a rather clean design.

It may be an evolution but it is still a new engine and vehicle that may have problems. I'd wait another year or two before buying anything powered by the LS2 or LS2 based engine.
