Im asking you guys "am i doing the right thing"

Hey guys, just a topic, Im just looking for general feedback fromALL of you.

Okay,

Pending the trip to Cali this summer. Im pondering how I will be able to speak with my mom about this. Im pondering that with her hectic, and rather busy schedule, I prefer to write my thoughts on what im about to do on paper, and hand her the piece of paper(s). But, I can't think of a good way to tell her, that Im heading off into the real world, alone. With the idea of California, my mom will more then likely blow up in my face and call me a dumbass, stupid, etc..... I am ready to make my choice, Im sick of being at home, and or even near family. I need my space, and yeah 2200 miles is a lot of damn space. But seriously, How should I go about brining this to her attention with her hectic schedule? I think im going to go with writting it all down for her, explaining this to her, which is my only REAL option anyways. So, how much le-way should I give her on letting her know about my choice? Should I hold off until a month before, or 2? All i ask of you guys is some general feedback on the situation. Thanks in advance

I would give her as much warning as you can. When I told my parents that I was moving to New Zealand (from Australia) it took a while for it to sink in and they took it very hard. Is it not possible at all that you could speak to her face to face as it would be much better that way rather than reading it in a letter (it seems so impersonal). Also, think very carefully before you move, for me I thought it was going to be easy, but it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do and if I could turn back the clock I don’t think I would do it.

Well, given my situation, finding a decent time to talk to my mom=1 in about 100 chance of happening. With all the things she has going with my sisters, its hard to even talk to her sometimes...... FTO, Im ready to move, Im 20 years old, old enough to take care of myself. Im already taking care of my self pretty much, so there isn't any hassle in me doing what i want to do. Im still going to do it, ir reguardless of how she acts about it.

That’s OK as long as you are ready. I was 23 and when I moved to New Zealand and I thought I was ready but I still found it really hard (I wanted to jump on the next plane back). It’s only in the last few years that I’ve lost the homesickness that I had (but everytime I go back to Sydney for a visit it’s still really hard to leave again when it’s time to go).

Didn’t have you before though did I!

and SkylineFreak, you’ve got to try and go face to face. As hard as it’s going to be it’s a much better option than via letter.

I wasn’t! I was just showing I was pleased that you had chosen to tell your mum face to face.

I agree, face to face is the best choice. I did it when I told my parents I was moving out to go to collage, and when I told them I was planning on moving to NZ (that was the interesting one )
