Re: fuel injected to carb need help

Got me? As far as I know, it should just keep running, and not cut out.

Re: fuel injected to carb need help

hold the key down for a few seconds, my friends got a monte and he put in a new engine and fuel pump and all that good stuff and to start his car he has to hold the key down for like 10 seconds before it finally starts up.

Re: fuel injected to carb need help

Are you using the stock FI pump? That will not work with the carb.......

Re: fuel injected to carb need help

The pressure is way too high for the carb, it would blow the needle and seat right out of the bowl.
Plus, the fuel pump relay is looking for pressure feedback to operate the pump. Unless the fuel pressure regulator is still in place (originally attached to the fuel injector rail), the pump will not fire properly.

Re: fuel injected to carb need help

If you run a fuel pressure reg, you should be able to make it work then, right?

I used an electric pump on my Boss like that, albeit the pump was not a factory Mustang pump.

Re: fuel injected to carb need help

No, the factory electric pump has too high a pressure to regulate. A carb pump is good to approx 14 psi max, regulated down to 5-6 for the carb.
The factory pump will produce 70 psi or more unregulated.

Sorry I arrived late....

Anyway the newb is totally right.... the factory ford EFI pump is putting out way too much PSI for a carb set-up.

What you need to do is buy an eletric fuel pump made for carb set-up and run a carb designed fuel regulator.

As it is you probably have already messed up your carb slamming 50-70psi into it when it was designed for 5-7psi.

Re: fuel injected to carb need help

you could just pull the elec. pump out and run a hose or rod in it's place, change timimg cover and go with a mech. pump on the cover!Don't forget the fuel pump ecentric on the cam gear!
