Mégane Cabrio

Renault's alternative offering to the gorgeous Peugeot 306 Cabrio, this car could outrace it but not match the Pug in terms of looks. It wasnt what you'd call pig-ugly, in fact ironically prior to facelift it was pretty handsome, unfortunately after face lift it looked pretty bad, very japanese which is not good on a convertible... But thats just my opinion, ill let you decide to yourself:

Old car: i like the rotor style alloys...

New car: ugly front end..

and the rest is basically the same, except for the black covers on the tail-lights which were changed to red glass... didnt look as good. at all!

The car handles well, has a 140bhp 2l motor, 0-60 in 7.9 and top speed is 130mph... One cery cool thing is the cover you can put over (?) the back seats to turn the car into a roadster, looks very neat and transforms the look of the car

cheers,
jay

hey stef, welcome to the forum

no, i live in london in the uk.
currently im driving my sisters car, a '98 vw golf 1.6 which i dont like very much.. too slow, not sporty at all... but i will be getting a lancia delta integrale evolution 2 in the next 6 months , and if not a bmw 3 series coupe, 318 or 330, as i have found good deals on each ...

I've a delta II... but with the 1.6 75hp ! It's a good car, but it's a little bit slow : the problem is that I had a Golf III (!) and I crashed it going in Holland whith friends. i'm a "joung driver" so my insurance doesn't want me to have a too pwerfull car : I wanted a 406 1.8 16v, they said that it was too much !!! heum...
I like the 3 ci.

I have a Golf III too (1.6), i havent crashed it yet, though ive been pretty close to doing so and even been chased by police a couple of times for driving like a maniac

Im surprised they didnt let you have a 1.8 406, surely the insurance on that wouldnt be so high... anyway, insurance is a problem for me too as i am also young (20), but hopefully i can work something out for an Integrale evo or a 3XX Ci.. maybe insure it in my dad's name and i can be an additional named driver... we'll see, im making some calls tomorrow..

whats the 1.6 delta like to drive compared to the golf? better handling im sure...

cheers,
jay

You have a Golf IV : the III (pic : it was my car ! golf 1.8 90 hp GL) didn't exist with a 1.6, it was the 1.4 (60hp) or 1.8 (75 and 90hp)... and more of course.
The problem with my insurance is that : I had a crash 7 years after having my driving licence (the Golf went to the crap yard) and I'm only 18. I have been stupid to go in Holland with a "so youg" driving licence, more, I was very asleep (...) and late when we came back. Hopefully the crash didn't happend on the highway, I would be there to answer you . So I'm youg with 25% of malus : that's bad to insure a car !!!
I could insure my car at the name of my parents but if I did that before the crash, I would have had problems, even if i wasn't payed back for my car (not "all risks").
You're young, but have you ever had a crash ? Do you have your driving licence for more than 2 years, if yes, it must be ok for your Delta Integrale or 3 ci series i guess.
The Delta 1.6 is a good car that I like very much. More charm than the Golf. Better, better handling for the Delta, yes !!! A little bit more noisy. But it's well fitted (electric sun roof, Alcantara, alloy wheels, etc.) for a very good price. Italian cars are less expensive than German or French cars here because of their reliability. But I guess that if I take care of my car I won't have problems.
Oh, I wrote a lot

ciao !

No no, my golf is a mk3 not a mk4.
its a very late one, one of the last ones. '98 1.6 Cl.

i didnt quite understand what u meant. ur 18 and had a license for 7 yrs???? i havent crashed yet but insurance is still complicated... the way it looks, the integrale looks like a dream more than reality

we'll see

You're right, the last Golf III with the 75hp engine, were 1.6 ! Appologizes !
The 8th April I passed my driving licence. The 19th, i went with 3 friend in holland, and when we came back, a Twingo crashed us in Belgium. Do you understand ?? Sorry I wasn't very clear !

I don't know...I kinda like it. I think it's a pretty darn good-looking car, besides the color. Yellow...

It is indeed not very discreet this yellow but that's nice on this Mégane cabriolet. But it will be replaced next year.

I just cant imagine a cabrio of the new megane... i just really, really cant see how they will make it work... the design is so extreme i think it will be hard for it to work as a cabrio.... good luck to them though, very brave design team

The design of the cabrio will be more consensual, with an electric hard top (as on the 206 CC and SLK).
