Got Cash, Id like to trade it for power.. :)

Ok I have collected (me + Christmas) about $650. If you had a 1999 GT, and wanted power out of the car...what would you look to spend this money on?!? The car currently has a K&N and flowmaster mufflers.

I was thinking BBK Long tube headers, followed by an offroad x pipe. Pretty much take all the cash, and wouldnt give me THAT MUCH power. But HP is not cheap. I considered saving it, and hoping in the future I could get some forced induction on the car...Would it be worth saving (awhile) for a supercharger, or is it better financially to just work bolt on to bolt on?

Any suggestions are welcome...infact any suggestions are very well enjoyed

Some 3.73's or 4.10's, and a steeda tri-ax. 2 Best mods you can do for your car.

i agree with boosted. new gears will can take .5seconds of in some cases. they will be your best bet for speed but it you want the car to be louder and more intimidating go with the lt's and h pipe.

Re: Got Cash, Id like to trade it for power.. :)

Well both of those things are things that I considered. The Tri-Ax I knew I would get eventually, just figured I would hold off until I had some more power under the hood.

I hear the gears are crazy help for Mustangs, but I hear they both kill your top end and mpg (not really biggest concern but this is a DD), also I heard 410s are almost impossible for daily drivers, especially in Chicago where snow is all over.

Do you guys think this would be better then just saving for some boost?

Powershot Fogger wet kit

I second the gears and shifter, though I'd check some shifters out before buying. I went with a Pro 5.0 base w/steeda Tri-ax handle, I'd never go back.

Re: Got Cash, Id like to trade it for power.. :)

4.10's are a little steep. with 3.73's you should be just fine. it wont kill your top end but it will effect it alittle bit. you have to ask yourself howoften you are gunna be breaking 100+ mph tho. youll be hopin off the line all the time tho. your first gear with 4.10 will be basically for none less then burning rubber. i would personally get 3.73's and they wont kill you mpg. now if yout want to save for boost that is always a good choise to but once you are boosted gears and a shifter will soon follow to get the full joy of the blower.

highrev you can also think about some mild wieght reduction while talking abotu cheap proeformace. wont do that much but you can take out your spare tire/jack, your rear seats, and sound dampening material under your carpet and maybee pick up a bit less than 2 thenths. itll be louder in the car but its free

Yeah it's way too expensive to mod a car just for the hell of having something fast.

no disrespect, but RIPOFF!!! Who charges 450 bucks to install gears???

Ring & Pinin =150 bucks without shopping around. Install kit 100-150 bucks. Install- 100-200 bucks max. If they charge more than 150 I'd go somewhere else. It ain't that darn hard to read a dial guage, and chances are they're gonna hand check the backlash, anyway.

I'm not disrespected cause it has been discussed on this website many times what people have paid for install of gears before. It has run anywhere from $200-$600 for install, that's what the market gets. This is what he can expect to run into wether I think what they are charging is fair or not.

When it comes to gears I'd rather pay the cash and had em done right than have a whine, a leaking pinion crush seal, and trying to fight wit the low-buck place for them to do it again right. Also 150+100+150=400 that is ya lowest possible numbers, 400 still equals the majority of his cash.

Exactly!

Most good shops will do more then just slap in gears. I paid $700 for mine. This included gears, shim kit, all new bears, rebuilt LSD, turned axles, gear oil, and labor.

A buddy of mine opted for the cheap gear install. All they did was install the gears, which they also did a horriable job. Gears whined so loud, LSD was not checked so it still peg legged. He ened up going to the shop I went to and they guy there asked if the original shop was wearing a blindfold when they installed the gears. After the fix, everything was ok, but the gears were already worn just slightly due to the bad intall.

OK, guess I'm spoiled by all the farm equipment shops around home, they see a car rearend and they'll do it for practically nothing. Good work, too, not just slapped in.
