Question 2001 Nissan Maxima SE problems with start??????

ok, when i bought my maxima like 6 months ago, it started very good every time, and starting about 2 months ago, once in every 1 or 2 weeks it began not to start from the first time, and it gets more and more often as the time passes. and yesterday, in the morning when it was about 28 deg outside [-3 C ] it did not start at all. First engine turned over and started working for a fraction of a second, but then it just died and starter was spinning, but you could hear it trying to catch on. but it didnt start. in the evening i tried to start again, same thing. i measured the voltage on the battery - 12.05 volts, and when the lights are on - 11.60v -- looked normal, but when i tried to jumpstart it from another car that was on - the battery voltage was a little higher, it did start, and when i got it to the dealer, it started fine in five minutes after i got there, and in the very cold morning next day - 19 deg , it started without problems. maybe some1 had the same problem and could give me an advice - i would really appreciate that! Thanks in advance!!!

--- another maxima owner.

I don't think it's cold enough for a fuel problem (we Texans wouldn't know much about cold weather problems), but your problem is either ignition (no spark) or fuel (no dino juice) related. I would be tempted to call the battery faulty, but your gauges say it's good (might be worth a try to swap it out). I really can't elaborate or give you any more advise unless I'm actually there, sorry.

The good news is that you should be well within your new car warranty. This could turn out to be a number things, even computer related. I had an 85 Hardbody truck with a V-6 in it for several years and 250,000 miles. When it bit the dust, it was computer related and in very very cold weather (yes it freazes on occassion in Houston).

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

i had a 96 adn have a 95 both started hard, the 96 was supposed to have the problem corrected by then. now my 95 does it intermittenly, i foujnd that if you start the car before lights/radio etc are turned on it starts perfectly a much better percent of the time. i think the starter requires too much from the battery. get a new battery (good one) and the dealer told me even though its fuel injected to give it a bit of gas while starting.

The car's a 2001. It's still under warantee. Just take it to any Nissan dealer and have 'em fix it. They should be able to diagnose the prob.

guys....unfortunately...this is a common problem that many of us maxima owners have.......there is no TSB for it which really really sucks.

but that's the breaks I guess.......
