Put the tools down and step away from the car!!!!

Sorry man but I think you need to do some reading and studying before you buy or even worse attempt to install something on your car. Shift kits are for automatic transmissions, AOD=automatic Over Drive. A plus is you picked the two best shift kits made for AOD's.

If by shorter you mean short throw shifter than yes. But make sure you know what manual tranny you have in your car.

Re: Shift Kit help

so this car is not automatic cause shift kits are just for automatics
im not for sure but i think it resticts trans fluied flow tell the right time thats what the kick is from kinda like kinking a water hose and letting go is that right gtstang short throw is for manuel trans and it makes for faster shifting what do you want to acomplish with this

Actually it's the opposite, a shift kit increase the flow of tranny fluid either through bigger holes, diverting it where it's need more, or different strength springs. This increases line pressure with leads to faster, firmer shifts

Re: Shift Kit help

^^^ Couldn't you achieve the same thing by programming a chip with the proper shift points, therefore negating the need for a shift kit?

(Not that it matters much to me, as I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Ford Auto Tranny LOL )

How exactly do you propose the chip controls the tranny's valve body?

It depends on how new it is.

The PCM controlls ALL the shifting and T/C lockup functions on the later model ATs (since the early '90s) for the AODE, 4R70W, 4R75W, 5R55, E4OD, 4R100, 5R100 etc.

We are talking line pressure, T/C lock-up timing and pressures, and the solenoid activation timing (shift timing). ALL these functions are also "adaptive", they adjust for driving style and wear (within limits).

There is absolutely NO NEED to purchase any form of "shit kit", the makers of these things do things to your AT that WILL kill it, and if not sooner then later. They have NO CLUE how to properly control a Ford AT, but they do a good job of messing them up. I have seen more than enough trans-go equipped ATs fail at WOT on the dyno because of what they do to the control circuits to EVER suggest they are ok to use. It really does not matter what "brand" of "shift kit", they are all IMO JUNK!

If you want the REAL SCOOP on your AT, and modifying it, go to www.tccoa.com and look at their tech sections under "transmission". The articles there were written by a former Ford powertrain engineer (worked on the AODE/4R70W), and HE KNOWS exactly where the weak points are, and how to correct them. Transgo etal, DO NOT.

I was pretty much going to say the same thing, but you've said it with 5 times more detail than I could add

go to trade school and learn the fundamentals of automobiles. you shouldn't be anywhere near your transmission unless you can identify it without assistance.
