Bad, bad luck...

I have question concerning fuel rails. Will the fuel rail from my DE work on a Bluebird DET? I ask because I recently was struck with some bad luck. I had my DET ordered, and it was on it's way to me via a freight company. So what's the only thing that could go wrong? The semi gets blown over and fubars various items on the engine. I just got back from looking at it and taking pictures. Also, if I see no external cracks on the block, do you guys think I should just replace the parts broken on this engine (fuel rail, an injector, distributor, and a couple other things..) and use it? It also got dirt IN the water hose connections on the block...I'd have to take it apart and clean it. What do you guys think I should do?

Dont sign for the delivery because of the damage done. Submit a claim to the freight company, they are insured for items that get damaged during transit. You could get a whole new engine....but call right away, a lot of times there is a timeframe in which you can submit a claim.

I'm still debating as to whether I should just replace the broken items with those from me DE (I should get money from the freight company), as the engine really is not bad, and I don't want to wait forever to get another CLEAN engine. Oh, and I found out I can just swap my fuel rail over too.

Well then submit a claim for the damaged parts, lets see ..... 1 damaged ball bearing turbo, 1 broken Jun lightened flywheel, 1 broken Cobra Maf, ......... j/k

Thats the way to go but yeah, dont just fix it and pop it in and hope for the best, if theres a chance on a new engine, isnt it worth the wait?? better than discovering that when you boost up the car, cracks start appearing in your block and water/oil everywhere. Get it done, get the claim in.

If I did keep this block, couldn't I get it x-rayed just to make sure there are no cracks in it anywhere?

claim for a new one...

seriously man...

you don't want to double the cost of putting in an engine if the first engine is internally fucked and you will feel absolutely ripped off because you basically paid FULL PRICE for an engine that was damaged.

this is the voice of reason...

claim for a new one. go ahead and claim the "extra" parts if you want (that is your business and your responsibility if you get caught) but really man... CLAIM FOR A NEW ONE...

the only reason why you wanna pop in the rolled engine RIGHT NOW is because you're anxious... 6 months to a year from now you'll be with your DET and if it's with the "rolled" one... then you'll always wonder in the back of your head if it's ok... but if you claim to get a new one... it'll only cost you a couple of months and save you a ton of stress about whether or not your engine is in sound condition.

if we weren't talking about a motor... and if we were talking about a skyline that was in pristine condition and the fact that the freighting company would give you a new one if you claimed... you'd totally claim for a new one right??? cuz u want a pristine one... not one that's been rolled and fixed up.

hope you make the right choice bro... you only wanna do the install once... do it with the right motor and you'll be proud of yourself later on.

Ok, good points. I won't be anxious and hasty, because that could leave me with BIG regrets. But just as a side question - would a compression and leak-down test be a good way to check if the block is still sound, and internals are good?
