airight, i have a 96 honda civic hatch with 300,000 miles on it, that burns a lil bit of oil. On hot spring/summer/fall days after the car warms up, she will stall on me when i come to a stop. I'll push in on the clutch, come to a stop, the idle will get rough, and she will stall on me, any suggestions on how to repair this?

Re: Stalling 96 Civic hatch
PCV valve might be bad or your timing might be off

Re: Stalling 96 Civic hatch
could even be as simple as u'r idle needs adjusted. not saying that's it, but u could check it since it happens only after the car has warmed up. that's when the car idles the lowest. so if the idle is set too low, then it'll also cause that problem. as already mentioned, could also be a vacuum leak, PCV valve, or EGR system, etc. but those all deal w/ vacuum

Has the Civic thrown a code from the ECU? Just after I got my '96 hatch, and drove it 1200 miles from texas, I got a dumb-dumb light on the dash and it started stalling (this is about 93k miles on the odo). I took it to the dealer and the oxygen sensor had gone bad- and it's covered under a recall, no cost to me for anything.
It's just a thought, at least. Also, make sure your gas cap is tightened down properly- these cars are positive-fuel-pressure, and if the cap is loose they can't build up proper pressure and will stall.

Re: Stalling 96 Civic hatch
at 300,000 miles, you may have more problems than you think. its only a matter of time, or you can do something about it now. go with the basic maintenence, if you havnt yet. if your burning oil, you need a compression and leakdown test. you sound like you busted some ringlands. your idle may be related to your oil burning at 300,000 miles. give a vacuum and oil pressure check too. these three test will help you pinpoint the problem, instead of picking out a possible problem and just fixing hoping it works. the three testing tools can easily be rented at your local autoparts store. if your not confident with performing the test, ask the clerk to do it for you outside in the parking lot (Autozone and Kragen are pretty cool with doing this, others like Napa may not), or just pick up a helms. you can also take it to a trusted auto repair shop and have them do it. this should be step one at 300,000 miles.
