72 Chevelle SS

Hello everyone, glad to be a new member, anyhow, looking for an approxomate value of a car I just stumbled across. It is a 1972 SS chevelle, orange, with the 402 and induction hood. The 70 year old guy bought it new. numbers match, car looks great, for being origional, has 79k for miles been in garage all its life. Wants 14g for it, could probobly by for a little less. Car appears to have no major flaws. need the chevelle experts to give me a ballpark ##

thanks again

Do you live in Canada? Or do you live in the United States?

I believe Blown Alky Boy is asking if the car is of Canadian or US manufacture.
The VIN number should read something like: "136372K123456"
The decoding goes like this...
"1" = GM Manufacturer Chevrolet
"3637" = Body type & Model (Malibu, 2 door Sport Coupe)
"2" = Last digit of Model Year (1972)
"K" (or some other alpha letter) = Assembly Plant (K = Kansas City, KS - L = Los Angeles/Fremont CA, J = Janesville, WI, etc). The list of assembly plant codes are readily available on a number of Chevy enthusiast websites, or in most Chilton's or Motor's repair guides, etc. - or you can post it on here & I will look it up for you.
The last 6 digits are the sequential build number (Serial Number), they all started at 100001 during that era.

I would say the car could be a great money maker, if it is documented well (original owner as verified by the title, build sheet if you can find it, warranty tag "Protect-O-Plate" in glovebox & or owners manual that matches title, etc). If it is not genuine, (for example, if it really has 159,000 miles, or a non-original engine, or has been repainted a different color, etc), it is still a nice find, if rust-free and in good order.
Check eBay, Hemmings Motor News, etc to get a feel for value of similar cars.
Good luck!
-Jim.
