Before you say anything...yes, i searched for this--for hours! On a lighter note, it's amazing how many other answers and bits of modelling wisdom i came across in my search.
I had a friend buy a flat red for me, and he came back with MM insignia red. Flat yes, but dark, better suited for a ship's lower hull than for seats in a Vette Roadster. Adding white produced a dusty rose, so the problem had to be the pigment, not the shade. I tried mixing in some X-7 for a better red, but it came out splotchy from the airbrush, even when thinned back down to the right consistency with Tamiya acryl thinner. Anyone else dealt with this--i'll try thinning it down some more, but i wonder if these two types just don't work well together. If nothing else, i can always add some flat base to some X-7 or make a trip down to my LHS for some redder (!) flat red. |

I think you answered your own question...
It's best to stay with a single brand of any type of paint when it comes to mixing colors. The only Vette interior red that I can think of is rather red...Like guards red...and should be semi-gloss on the vinyl or leather parts.

Re: hmm...mixing Tamiya and MM acrylics?
One of the older car painter's adage is "always use the same make". I've never tried to mix MM and Tamiya's acrylic lines and I think you've discovered why...;-(
