wish I had a camera for this one.

last night me and some friends were doing a few practice runs around the block where we race. the runs were going good and we decided to call it a night around 5am.
I wanted to get one more run in my 92 probe gt and see if I could get the fastest run of the night.
so right after the first turn I decideed to really open it up. so I mashed the pedal and slid the car around the next two turn real nice, it was as close to a drift as you can get in a fwd(in other words a really smooth and controlled power slide) so I got a little excited and decided to take the last turn a little faster. before I got to the turn I hit the hand break and got the ass out it was all going smooth and I was going to make it.
All of a sudden POP! I knew almost instantly it was a tire before I could straighten my front wheels and hit the gas the ass end was way to far out so I did what any hardcore street racer does in a situation like this
I let go of the steering wheel grabbed my hair and and cried out a high pitch girlish scream. Just kidding. I chose a clear path and tapped the gas untill i got traction but it was to late by the time iI had gotten traction to the front wheels I was already going into a spin. the rear end went over the curb popping the other rear tire and the side of the rear bumper hooked one of those yellow poles that stick out of the sidewalk and keep cars from going into buildings well it slowed the spin enough for me to get controll and I drove out of the corner.
when we checked the car the rear bumper had pretty much been peeled right off leaving most of its mounts attached to the car. it had slingshoted itself all the way accross the street from the pole.
when i checked what was left of my rear tires I could see that something had ripped into the sidewall of my tire and the other one had slid halfway off the wheel.
we never did find what punctured my tire whatever it was left a 1 3/4 inch hole in my sidewall. the bumper is trash now. but lucky for me I didn't damage the fender or tail light.
so now the car sits on new tires in my garage waiting for me to replace the rear bumper with the one from my parts car and take it to the races this weekend.
I was thinking about getting a body kit for it but considering almost all of the body panels have been damaged and replaced due to racing, I think im gonna wait on that. Its also why the parts cars I get are allways black so I dont have to pay for paint.

Re: wish I had a camera for this one.

you know, I hate to say it, but what the hell do you expect, drifting on residential streets? You're lucky you didn't go through a garage.

You may want to check the wrx vs. house thread:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ight=wrx+house

and rethink exactly what you are doing.

. I remember reading that exact same thread, and I was going to post that for him. The dudes car is seriously f'd up. But the house is worse.

House>WRX

I've done some pretty dumb things myself, but honestly, I think that has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of anyone doing. I hope you don't try something like that ever again.

As for you getting a body kit, I'd say forget about it. Put the money into your engine. It's plenty more worth it than a body kit. Just remember, be safe and don't do something like this again. Late...

Re: wish I had a camera for this one.

ouch.. I'd be fearful of someone calling the cops and hitting someone. I power slid it once with the new motor, 2nd gear going 10 tapped the gas through a corner. I glanced up ahead and saw a state po and almost shat myself.

stay safe and becareful!

Re: wish I had a camera for this one.

Powersliding around residental streets is so RICE. Save it for need for speed or 2F2F or something.

Don't get the point of the story either. Might as well have posted it in the "need new tire" forum.

Powersliding is rice. If you wanna race where you're in control of your car, go ahead. But if you wanna go around residental streets full throttle and then just pull your e-brake, where anything can happen, then you shouldn't have a license. Because of stupid shit like that...never mind, I don't even wanna talk about it.

Body Kit? FWD? I thought you had a 68 Charger, I didn't know they made kits for them, and I thought they were RWD...?

68 Chargers are RWD, and they make limited body parts for them.
This guy's last two posts if true is the reason those of us have problems with the law, and a good reason people like this need to take drivers ed. If they want to race, there's a time and place.
This isn't cool one bit. To race around the block where you can't see around the corner and what or who you'll hit is beyond stupid.

Wow I love how people jump down his throat. If you read his last post, then you would know they do this where no one else is. Power Sliding is rice? I think not... Doing it with FWD is alil weird, but have you ever watched videos of pro-drivers drifting? Hardly rice...

Drifting isn't rice and takes talent, but what there doing is rice and could be very dangerious for someone in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Powersliding in his FWD around a block where there might be people.
Sounds like something a 14 year old would want to do. It's a 92 probe Gt, does that sound like something you'd want to race around a block using your e-brake?

Is he a "professional drifter"? Are you one of those guys who sees a video online and thinks that you can do it just like those people around a track? Can you control a car, or do you think he can control a car the way he wants it to by braking with his e-brake around corners? He freakin blew his tire, he's lucky the car didn't flip. Does that sound safe? Sure, it's an adrenaline rush...if you're 14 years old.

Too many times do I see topics like "bent rim, need help" and in the body of the message the guy talks about how he used the e-brake to get his stock civic around an intersection and hit a curb.

Go play some Need for speed underground or something. I'm glad I don't live around Highrev or the other guy.

I'm glad there are cops out there preventing this type of BS and get you kids off the streets. Hgihrev and Kanibal, repeat after me "Need for speed underground is a game. I shall not risk mine and other peoples lives by racing an underpowered FWD car and using my e-brake to brake around corners. Need for speed is just a game"

Re: wish I had a camera for this one.

this took place in an area where there are no people or houses the only things there are a couple scrap yards and an abandoned factory.I think they made cheese there. as for using the e-brake to slide, I was just screwing around with the car. think of it as testing it's limitations and behavior in a situation where traction is lost during a race. not preparing for this kind of situation would be far more dangerous than doing it in a fairly safe enviornment. If it does happen during a race I would at least have some control, instead of panicing slamming the brakes and sliding into the other driver or spectators.
as far as me owning a 68 charger and a probe. didn't realize there was some unwritten rule saying you only get to have one car in your garage, if thats the case than im in big trouble, I have two probes(one for parts) and the charger. Now you dont expect me to go out and race my 68 charger on the streets do you?
now a stock probe gt is underpowered for this kind of thing. but I am not running in a stock probe. the suspensions on these cars were very good stock. mine has thicker swaybars ground control coilovers with adjustable struts, bushings. hyedracyl front brake kit 12.2 slotted rotors four piston calipers, slotted rotors performance pads in the rear stock calipers, well it's gonna take me forever to list everything so i'll try and make it quick jspec fe3 swap, stock turbo, coated pistons, rods, lifters, ect. fuelpump, ecu, injectors, distributor, plugs, wires, coil, clutch kit, aluminum flywheel, custom exhaust, hollow cat, short shifter, sparco seats, harness, 4 pt cage. front rear tower bars, wheels, tires, around 250bhp 270ft/lbs torque at 13psi 8,8:1 compression, and so on and so forth.I know I forgot a bunch of stuff, but this isn't about my car. what I dont understand is how I get critisized for this and everyone talking about the race they had on the freeway in the middle of the day gets told "good win" because they beat some ricer who was tailing them or reved there engine at a stoplight. now If you ask me that sounds like endangering the lives of other peds.
know that I am not pissed off or anything, just think you should consider looking at the thread block racers? to get a better understanding of how I like to do things.
This wasn't my first crash and im pretty sure it wont be the last, but hey it's all part of racing and should be expected.

And I thought true power sliding was impossible in a FWD vehicle? guess not.

And drifting Rice? LMAO you do realise before Drifting "came to the states" It was already being done in muscle cars in the states? yeah figured you didn't

My Great uncle used to drift his el-camino back in the '70's
didnt really know that a 70's el camino was rice. oh well.

Re: wish I had a camera for this one.

It's not impossible to drift a fwd car. It's just close to impossible. I wouldn't even call what I was doing drifting. It was definatly more of a powerslide, there was no way I could have connected more than one of these slides together. I was just sliding the car sideways while trying to keep the car straight and pointed in the derection of the road after the turn while not sliding into the outside curb.
Now I don't really know too much about drifting but im pretty sure this was not drifting.

I've never done a drift in my life. You're talking about preparing for a block race with spectators and stuff. I hope no one gets hurt doing that. I am not a fan of organized street races anyway; never been and never will. If a "safe" race finds me, I'll go. If not, I do what other people do...drive.
