Relationships vs religion
How good/bad, hard/easy is it to have a relationship with someone with a different religion than yours?

Re: Relationships vs religion
Depends on how different the religion is. If it's a christian/muslim, then it's probably going to be fairly hard, but if it's a baptist/catholic probably not that hard. Also, it depends on how religious you are.

It depends on how strong the persons faith is and how hard the other person tries to convert them.

Re: Relationships vs religion
Yeah if ur a weekend christian and dating a budist then it wouldn't be that big a deal. The same goes for dating someone that doesn't have a religion. It's not so much as which religion but how much ur into it. I personally think all religions point to the same place so it wouldnt be as big a deal to me. If you were going to get serious and have kids someday you'd have to think about which customs you would go by, whcih church you would go to and stuff like that. That could get confusing.

Re: Relationships vs religion
Im a Christian, and Ive dated a very hardcore Catholic. Not a problem, I respected her thing and she respected mine.
But like they said, if it were like Protestant/Catholic, might be a bit different. Just depends on how active they are, and if they want you to be a part of it or not. Also, how tolerant each of you are towards other religions. Personally, someone's beliefs are none of my business, so I respect there beliefs as long as they respect mine.

Well... i forget the verse at the moment, but the Bible tells why not to marry someone that doesn't share your faith...
I'll come back and post again later after i find the verse.

As I like to say "I am all three 'A's, Anglican, Athiest and *sshol*! It is partly the amount of religious participation/belief and a LOT of tolerance, respect and understanding that makes the difference. But this is the key to a good relationship regardless of the source of potential conflict. |

to restrict yourself to partners of the exact same faith as you is ridiculous. that being said, there are some religions that just dont mix. its all about tolerence, sacrifice, and the ability to maintain faith seperate from relationships. ive watched faith get in between otherwise beautiful couples, and its heartbreaking to watch. but if its not going to work, its not going to work.

Re: Relationships vs religion
Religion is foolish. Something to tame the mind from thoughts of why we are really here...
But besides, my friend wont have sex till he's married because of his faith. A waste I tell you. Deleted by mod

You are entitled to your right to believe what you want. So dont feel like the above statement was an attack on your position. Only the mormon comment.

Re: Relationships vs religion
Yeah... my girl is a mormon... but I respect her religion and don't do anything stupid to her... I don't really have a religion thats probably why I asked this question..

Now, if you would like to put forth an OPINION instead of saying it as though it's fact, that would be completely different. It's your friends choice to be abstinant, and is not right of you to criticize him for that. Just because he believes something that you don't doesn't justify you calling his decision a waste. Friends tolerate one anothers differences.

Re: Relationships vs religion
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with having your V Card, i know A LOT of people who still do.. then again i know a lot of whores(male and female).. Anyway it's probably not a wast for more than one reason
1) Less chance of disease 2) Less chance of getting someone pregnant/or yourself. 3) ....maybe later... |
