My dad bought a BMW F650 GS Dakar in the black and white color scheme. I'm getting my M-class permit soon so I can take it out for a spin!

Egads, time for an update!

I've taken her for a spin about a dozen times, and I'm taking the safety course like everyone recommended. It sure is a bit harder than I thought!

But guess who is half-way to her M-class (motorcycle) liscense!!! I just scored 100% on my written test, but our riding test isn't until Thursday. If I pass that, I'll be legal to ride a motorcycle any time, day or night.!

I'm so excited!

Tangie let me first say you have a nice bike. Next, it is good to know that I am not the only girl that is into import cars, and has her own motorcycle. Or two, I have a 98 CBR 600 Smokin Joe's Racing Edition and a 97 Kawasaki Ninja. Both of which I really enjoy riding.
It is good that someone has already suggested that you take that safety course. I have been riding for close to 16 years now. And I took the course. It taught me some things that I didn't know. Well anyways, good luck and be careful.

The course is so cool. I had my 3rd riding day today, and it went so nicely. Sure, we're stuck on undersized/underpowered 125s, but all the traits carry over to my dad's bike. Yeah, I'm growing quickly to love riding again. I rode dirtbikes as a kid and stopped (well, literally) b/c I grabbed the front brake and flipped over the handlebars. I'm loving riding now b/c I'm not some loser show-off with a huge desire to be a red pavement crayon

I'll have in 2mos of riding on the street pretty soon, and WHEN I pass my test on Thursday, I'll be street legal for much more riding fun!

Yeah I found out this past weekend in Myrtle Beach at the bike rally, that everyone (and their bother) has CBRs. The only reason I got mine was because a very few number of the smoking Joes were made. I think it was only 1500. So I know that I got a special bike. If you want something different let me suggest a SV650S. I personally like this bike, and would have got one. But I didn't want something that new.

Hey, cool suggestion, but I think that for a while I might just keep it under 600cc so that I have something to progress to!

Oh, and I just got my license tonight!!! I went for a celebratory ride, even! I want a bike of my own so badly now so that I can just pick up and leave whenever I please. Besides, the seat height on my dad's BMW is a bit too high for my tastes. Even at 5'9" I still can only tiptoe both feet on the ground at a stop

so I think I might go for either a nice traditional or semi-sporty 400-500cc bike.

Well you are doing better than me. I am only 5'2". Both of my bikes have dog bones on them. Just in case you don't know what they are, they are bars that lower the suspension. My CBR was lowered 3 inches, just so that I could ride it. But if you still want a smaller bike, then I suggest a Kawasaki Ninja 500 or possibly a 250. The 250 may be small but it has a lot of power and when 'taken care of" it will out run just about any 600 in the class. (I work for a motorcycle store...)

I've actually been looking around for Kaw Ninja 500s and also some Suzuki ES500s!!!! I'm a bit hesitant to go for only 250 since I know I can handle more, and most 250s aren't maintained well enough for me to bother buying one used. That is sooooooooo cool that you actually work in a "bike shop!" I'm still not far enough along to know enough to work in either a car/bike shop, but I'm trying to learn as much as possible!

I actually was scheduled to go to Orlando, Fl next month to start at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. But I decided against it, because I am basically learning all of it, and getting paid for it

Instead of having to pay to learn. But I have a friend that has a 97 250. It has been taken care of and only has 1900 miles on it compared to 4000 on most of the others. He has piped it, and jetted it. It will outrun any GSXR, CBR, YZF, or just about any other 600 out there. The small wheel base allows for better turning capabilities, and it will get up and go. You should actaully get a naked bike, like a suzi bandit (not the 1200cc version tho) and your beemer looks like the german version of my suzi dr650, lol. i didnt know that bmw made dualsport bikes.

edit: oh yeah, and dualsports SUCK!@!! I tried hitting some trails and sandpits this weekend, but the fucking thing is so heavy and the tires that come with it are NOT made for anything other than tight gravel. What a waste of height!! gah!! i quite literally hate my bike, it gets so uncomfortable to rider after aobut 20 minutes, sitting so high, only 5 speeds. What a useless piece of junk. i want a REAL! bike. a cbr 959 wouldn't hurt.
