brands for high output alternators?

if you look at my setup im going to need about 200 amps coming from an alternator, and i have no idea what brands to look into. i know stinger and kicker make nice ones, but i dont know where to get them at all, and the cheaper the better - as long as its good quality. any suggestions on brands or shops/sites?

Mean Green

Check out Mean Grean -- all they make is alternators!
but you'll only get like 175amp alt -- unless u have them custom coil one for u.. - U do understand this is goin to be like $500+ for a new car Audio Alt. + tha price of having one installed - all of your Engine wires need to be replaced - all tha belts....

There is alot of $$ when u do a Alt upgrade...

Go speak to yoru local shop & see what they say...
Also talk to Nick @ redime.com -- see if he can get u something.

have a good one - peace

your best bet is to find a place that rebuilds alternators and call them.

Here in WI there are some shops that will redo the inner windings with different wire sizes to beef up output, yet retain factory look and size, as some vehicles require custom brackets that in my experience never fit right.

This route also isn't very expensive, for a 99 cavalier that we did they bumped him to 175 amps in his stock housing for under 200 dollars

if there was any way around getting a new alternator id prolly do it, but im going to be drawing like 160+ amps of current for just my stereo, and the car needs some too
if it could be rebuilt to 200+ id go for that, but i think im just going to need a new one.

take into consideration that the 200 amps you desire is not a nominal draw, this is most likely your maximum draw and in a real world situation you will not need all of that, of course it depends if you are using amps with regulated power supplies or unregulated.

take a fuse for instance, a fuses rating is a number derived from maximum current draw at time of demise and the average current draw of the given device.

i think that an upgrade to 160 would be more then sufficient.

would somebody be able to calculate it out exactly if i provided the right information? some physics guru was telling me id need like 350 amps in order to never have any dips or problems, and i think thats just crazy.

oooooooooo, dayamn, you gots some mmats, that is a power hungry biatch, yea you may need like at least 180 if not more, those things will suck all the power that you can give it.

give me fuse rating on all three of your amps.

the PA275 is has a 30amp fuse, and draws 16 amps at full power the way im going to run it, the PA2100 has a 40amp fuse, and will draw 23 amps at full power, and the MMATS doesnt have a fuse but wants an 80A to protect it in the power wire. i didnt get a "birth certificate" for the mmats so im not sure how much it draws at any load - ill be at 2 ohms, which is what this model is designed for.

i really dont know what im doing with these numbers, but does that mean the max my stereo will draw is 150 amps? and i heard you need like 40 for your car's stock electronics

Nominal Vs. max. power draw...

Let's think for a minute here. Almost all the speakers in this system are Diamond Audio Hex-series (MacDaddies are effectively part of the Hex line). Like all Diamond Audio speakers, they need surprisingly little power in order to make a helluvalot of noise. They are truly the Integra Type-R of the speaker world.

I'll assume that all hardware is being completely strung out for maximum db.

The 6" component sets will be running from the blau 2100 (2x100rms @4ohms). The maximum draw of this setup will be in the range of 25 amps. Possibly less. Nominal will prolly be like 5 amps.

The 6x9's will be running from the blau 275 (2x75rms @4ohms). The maximum draw here will be 20 amps on a really power-hungry day. nominal 5.

The MMATS amp is 600 RMS @ 4ohms. From what few specs I've seen, it's not designed specifically for long-term 2ohm operation. Regardless, this design consideration doesn't have a huge impact on max power consumption. This should have a max load in the range of 80 amps. Nominal of 10 to 15. DAMN is that going to be loud on MacDaddies!

Adding up the numbers we have:
Maximum usage: 125 amps
Nominal Usage: 20-25 amps

The stock alternator (isn't it like a 90A alternator in the 94 accord?) should be totally fine. You'll probably want a second battery and capacitor, but the stock alternator should be just fine.

If it's any consolation, my system draws about 60 amps max (all alpine and diamond m5's) off the stock alternator w/o a second battery or cap, and I never have ANY problems with the power, even in with the joke of a battery in my integra.

i'm going to use a jbl bp1200.1 amp to power two Image dynamics 12d4's. i'm also going to have a optima yellow top and a 1.0 farad cap. think my 60-70 amp alternator will be able to handle this.

aha, a diamond fan... gotta love 'em. yea both blau amps were tested at the factory, the 2100 draws a max of 23 amps running at 4ohms (what im doing) and the 275 pulls 16 - very accurate guesses on your part, Marasmus. MMATS i really dont know but the favorite number seems to be 80 amps max, again agreeing with what you said, so about 125 total. but thats just the stereo, and you need some to run the car (good idea/bad idea?). the stock is 90 amps, ill have an optima yellow top in the trunk and either 1 or 2 F of capacitors wired in; how does the extra bat. and the caps affect the draw on the alternator?
and hellll yea its going to be loud, i cant wait... the guy in the shop had it hooked up to a house current with a 1F cap, off this same MMATS amp; the other boxes vibrated slid around the shelves and floor when it hit...
