I'm giving it up

Do to some recent events, i've decided that i'm giving up alcohol completely. Not right away mind you, there are some events coming up that will be my only exceptions. And once these upcoming events are done, i'm through forever with alcohol. However, my weekend binge drinking and party life is going to end starting now. This is probably going to piss off a lot of my college buddies but they'll just have to deal with it. I thought i would tell my friends of AF because i've posted plenty of times on here while intoxicated and stupid drunk, and i thought it was fitting for you to know this. I've hurt a lot of people because of my drinking habits, including my best friend Jeremy, my parents, and a dear friend who doesn't want anything to do with me anymore So aside from some light drinking on New Years, my birthday, and maybe a summer party or two...I'm done.. This is something that sits in the back of your mind for days or weeks on end, and your to afraid to do anything about it, but i'm making a big effort to kick the habit. I'm proud of the fact that i can quit drinking, and hopefully i have some real friends around here who will support me and not give me a lot of shit about it. A lot of people in my family were huge alcoholics and that's not how i want to be known. I know this was a long post and i thank whoever took the time to read all of it.

Re: I'm giving it up

Drinking isn't your problem, self control while drinking is. I know you said not right away, but if you were to manage 1-2 beers instead of getting obliterated I think you'd feel just as good as you would quitting..

Re: I'm giving it up

Ever been to a 3 kegger party? I'm sure you have... 2-3 beers turns into 15 real fast. I said i would have 1-2 beers on certain occasions, but i plan on being completely alcohol free within the next 7 months, it's just something i feel i have to do.

if saying that you want to stop... then why have you already planned out your drinking habits for the next year of your life??? LOL.. there are no reasons why your obligated to drink.. good opportunity to work on your self control.

Well, although I'm not taking your route, I can sympathize. I rarely just drink 1 or 2 beer, or 1 or 2 anything, mostly cause I don't like alcohol (other than wine) in social settings unless it's a lot.

Mind you, I'm in University, so we pretty much just get hammered round the clock. I've always been pretty decent at controlling myself, and I know what to stay away from and I have a rough Idea of my limits.

Still, good luck with sobriety make a drinking fund or something, like everytime you have more than you think you should, put in a few dollars, like a 'swear jar' of sorts, but don't buy alcohol with it after!

Re: I'm giving it up

Yeah, dont go quitting immediately, I don't think that is the right way to quit... IMO, drink modderately and work your way down to about 2 or 1 beers and then you have enough control to absolutely quit.

Josh, you know I'm here for you. Even though I'm having a hard time stopping myself...I'm here if you need someone to talk to. You can do it, and it'll be hard, but once you kick it and get it under control, your life will be better (at least that's what everyone tells me)

Re: I'm giving it up

Alcohol and drugs aren't the answer. Drugs are the question. The answer is yes.

Good for you dude. I think alcohol addiction is as hard to kick as drug addiction, so its good taht you've realized the path you were heading down now rather than when its too late.

I myself am also not a 1 or 2 drink person, if I drink I DRINK. Therefore I only allow myself to drink when at parties or something, never alone, never at home unless with friends, etc. And thankfully I never get too stupid, not much stupider than I generally am anyway lol.
