upgrades?

I need a way to increase horsepower without increasing torque. I don't have enough money for a higher torque capacity transmission and all of the performance upgrades increase torque and horsepower. If I put these upgrades on my torque could ruin my transmission.

Re: upgrades?

not true... the torque 'rating' on your transmission is actually lower than it can really handle. i'm running a world-class t-5 with my current mods and have no problems whatsoever. the WC t-5 doesn't have that much better torque capacity than a standard one.

what you have to understand is that horsepower is a function of torque and RPM. the formula is: Horsepower = (torque x RPM) / 5252 . whenever one increases, the other will increase proportionally. so really, horsepower is just a term used to sell cars to ignorant people. the force an engine generates is called torque, from which horsepower is derived.

Re: upgrades?

and btw in case you didn't know, the definition of 'torque' is simply twisting force

I asked this because I read in a book that in a 1996 cobra with a t-4 the syncronizers get destroyed and fork gets get bent when you use the mustangs full power. I found this strange because the t-4 is rated at 320 and 96 cobra has 300 ft lb torque.

Really? My understanding is that it was only 220.

Also understand that those torque ratings are found under an ideal effieciency your car will never see. You need to be making more than the lab tested max torque rating to equal the same as the lab tested torque due to the ineffieciency of torque transfer your car exhibits. How much more depends on a truckload of variables.

Try www.ddperformance.com for some transmission ideas. The T-5s' they sell have a 330 lb-ft torque rating so considering your not going to beat on the everyday, the T-5 should be fine with the 350 lb-ft.

How about 360 ft. lb. And what do you mean by your not going to beat on the everyday.

Meaning your not going to beat on the transmission everyday. If your smoking your tires and peeling out everyday, you put your transmission under a lot of stress so you get less durability out of it. Moderate your driving. If you keep uping your lb-ft torque than you mine as well get a TKO 500 or T-56. Are you really planning on 360 lb-ft or are you just throwing the idea around? What kind or stang are we working with here a 4.6, 5.0 or a v6
