when you buy new exhaust...

I was planning on buying magnaflow catback exhaust and matching X pipe..and I was wondering..what do they do with your stock exhaust/x pipe when it's removed? Also, about how much does the labor cost to put on new exhaust/x pipes? Thanks!

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

Muffler shops usually have one of those big dumpsters out back full of rusty pipe. I'd imagine you'd find it somewhere in there. As for labor... damn man buy a set of sockets and wrenches and get under the car! Its probably a total of 20 bolts to change that stuff out. Its 8 on my car!

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

Yes, I'm asking what the shop does with the old parts. And if I actually had a place to work on my car...I'd do it myself. The most I'd put on myself would be intake/shifter. And if it's such an easy job then the shop should have no trouble doing it. if it takes them an hour it's definitely more convient for me to pay them $80 to put it on.

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

Fair enough, I was just jokin with ya. I do absolutely everything myself, just because I trust absolutely no one with my car. Heard too many horror stories of people leaving their car a shop for something simple and the next day the motor is blown. Its very hard to prove they caused it to let go. But for something like your situation, I'd definately suggest staying at the shop while they do it. Shouldn't take them more than an hour.

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

The muffler shop my dad goes to custom made him a exhaust and put it on in 2 1/2 hrs so it should not take them long at all to put it on.

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

Magnaflow exhaust claims their kit can be installed in '1 to 2 hours'. So yeah...you better bet I'd be hanging around the shop for that hour or two. and the place I have in mind is quite the respectable shop...but then again..that's usually the ones you have to watch out for. I mean hell...I'd LOVE to be in the position to do all of my own work, but the reality is in my current situation I just can't. I wish I had a garage.

Most shops will just throw ya old stuff away like said... usually they just torch or cut the stock cat-back and we use to either keep the stock cat h-pipes to sell or use on something else(cause we were a Mustang only shop) or give it to the owner at there request.

actually installing tailpipes w/o all the handy equipment is very maticulous. i couldnt imagine trying to get the catback over the rear axle w/ nothing but a car jack...i paid a local shop 100 dollars to install an o/r x and a catback...he did it in 25 min., i timed him, and he eyeballed everything...needless to say he knew what he was doing. and he actually did say something about the assembly of mag catbacks.....BIG PAIN IN THE REAR. he also said that flows are usually the best put together.

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

I don't like flowmasters. I don't like their products, their sound, their performance or anything about them. Magnaflow being a 'pain in the rear' to put in shocks me more than anything. Their kits are designed so simply and they come with every single piece you need to put them on, so no surprises. I'm surprised anyone would say any such about Magnaflow.

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

Oh yeah...and you paid $100 for 25 minutes worth of work? That's $210/an hour. I guess you paid by the job and definitely not by the time.

call around buddy, cuz i know i did my research before i submitted and i got quotes anywhere from 200 up to 400. and not to mention all of the other shops that wouldnt do it cuz its OFF ROAD. what would it matter if i paid the guy by the hour, he would have taken his sweet ass time to milk me for money and i would have been in there def. for more than the fucken 25 min. i was...now tell me again mr. king of the obvious , what was the purpose of that post??

Re: when you buy new exhaust...

wow...somebody has a temper problem. i was just trying to get an idea of what I'd have to pay...that's why I asked if labor was really that much. so god damn calm down. and for one, this is my thread..so I think I'll post whatever I feel like will get my questions answered. As I'm rereading I don't see you posting anything thats exactly helpful..you just posted some bunch of shit how flowmasters are better.

im sorry if i came across as rude but from what you were saying it sounded to me like you were mocking me and my judgement for paying a hundred dollars to have pretty much my whole exhaust hung. im sorry, were you not pretty much asking us all how much we paid to have our exhaust installed?? it sure as hell sounded like it to me... and no i wasnt posting a bunch of SHIT about how flows are best, i was quoting to you a professional opinion that was quoted to me... if you arent going to appreciate peoples replies, simply post somewhere else.
