Amenities VS Speed
Ok. So which is more important and by how much. I am moving more and more towards amenities then pure speed although I want the best of both worlds. Right now the new M3 is looking like the perfect match for me in new vehicles. But, I am interested to hear other opinions.

you can brag about numbers all day long, and how to get them is a huge industry... however, everone here knows they want a lexus sc430 or mercedes or something of the like next to their gleaming italian supercar...

The sc430? I have never driven a Lexus so I am not familiar their handling. It seemed to be higher on the amenities and lower then the speed then I would like.

YOU NEED A CAR FOR EACH...
OR A COMPROMISE, LIKE THE M3.... OR GET A ZO6 AND A LEX |

Truly the best of both: buy a remanufactured McLaren F1, and they tailor the driver's seat to your measurements. Nothing beats custom-built.

I have to second the IS w/ stick. It has the best of both worlds and, it is still young in the aftermarket world. Which means as time goes, I think the aftermarket support for that car is going to be crazy.

nobody 600 lbs would be able to live a normal life in society, or at least not be judged against for their nasty appearance and would therefore never have the dosh for a mac. However, if you just mean someone sicky obese, say 300 lbs and less than 6 feet tall.... they would never have let themselves get that way if they had wanted a mac the way we wanted and knew that only rich skinny people could really have one....

That's an interesting question, odd though it is. I guess you couls emiail McLaren (their site used to be www.mclarencars.com; can't find it now), But I don't really think they'd take you seriously.
At 600 pounds, the driver himself would seriously impact the performance and handling of the car. Do you think McLaren would make other adjustments for a particularly hefty customer? |

look, that was a serious reply. There were only 64 mac's built. Do you really think they had a large clientele of 600 lb people? I am being completely serious when i point out that anyone rich enough to buy a mac would certainly opt for the therapy to drop them from 600 lbs before they ever thought of wedging into a small british sports car. Now, 300 lbs isn't too unrealistic. I'm sure there are plenty of mac owners who hapeen to be less freakishly overweight, and in that case, I'm sure mclaren would adjust the interior as best as possible to suit their needs. Shaquille o'neal has a bentley arnage red label. He's had the seat moved so far back, he actually looks out the rear side window when looking directly to the right, and you better believe the standard car doesn't go anywhere near that far back. The mac is harder to modify, but if someone really wanted flatter bolters for the larger waistline, i don't doubt that mclaren could have found a replacement seat, but lets not ignore that extra mass hampers a car, so sure, a very large driver or more likely, a full carload of large people would cause the car to strain a bit simply due to the extra inertia of the car-passengers system.

IMO, it really depends on the application. In a sports car, that doubles as a Daily driver, I like AC and a CD player. I don't need a great system or power anything! Just AC. However, if I have a Mercedes, I damn well want my GPS, leather, ABS, power-steering, power everything, and all that good stuff. It also depends on the car. In a car with lots of power, weight does not play such a huge role as it does in light cars with small numbers. So, putting a 100 lb Sub box in your del sol is going to be much more of a penalty than putting the same weight in your Mustang GT or Vette.

I could care less about GPS, A/C, radio, etc, etc. As long as i'm in a comfortable driving position & can hear the engine reving, i'm fine. Rather have a fast car then any amenities
