Cool New G20, but whats next- help?

Hey everyuone first of Im am the proud new owner of a G20 t '99 titanium silver, I totally love my car its all standar so far, but I want to slowly start hooking it up. My only problem is that this is my first car and Im new to all this. I want to know if anyone can help a newbie build a mean machine, I want to buy some stuff for it first of all that will improve performance as well as help my car last. So far people have been mentioning to invest in a cold air filter (supposedly this will boost up some horespower and cool my engine ?) I want to invest in it but am confused on the product I should use? Also after that whats good to invest in.
Im sorry for being so lost but if epople can break down the good things to purchase in the beggining then that would be helpful, real world examples would be great.
My goal is to give my car some more power, and more stability, after that I plan on getting som nice rims and whells, even though Im unsure as to how big to go, I dont want to take away performance by having the wrong wheels.
Any advice, or if you can point me in the right direction to teachg myself I will appreciate it.
Thanks everyone, and youll be seeing me around more.

first off, get yourself a TEIN NA suspension kit. cheap, but good quality. we'll worry about the intakes and exhaust later.

welcome to the g20 world! you should start off by browsing a couple sites and seeing what other owners have done, then check some parts websites. have fun!

www.g20.net

www.g20style.com (also check the link for luke's site on the rides page)

aftermarket parts:

www.digitalracer.com

www.optauto.com (do a search for g20 to narrow it, then browse the other stuff)

www.stillen.com (look at their stuff and buy elsewhere for cheaper)

Unless you have the desire and resources to do a turbo install, I suggest getting an aftermarket intake(CAI or JWT POP or the two combined) and headers. Those two mods have the best return on their cost, and they're not *very* difficult to install. Advancing your timing will get you some more ponies, which is free, but you have to be careful you don't advance it too much or you'll fuck up your engine(theres a good article about this on se-r.net). The G20 exhaust system flows quite well in stock form, but you could still get maybe 5 HP out of an aftermarket or custom mandrel bent set-up with a high-flow muffler. Installing lighter aftermarket underdrive pulleys and a flywheel will also get more power to the wheels. And if you're up to it, you can remove your cylinder head and install aftermarket cams or a 91 SR20 intake cam. Getting your ECU reprogrammed will also help, although its best to have that done after you have done the rest of this stuff(must be done if you're installing aftermarket cams). There are people on this forum with this stuff on their G20s, so they can tell you better than I what kind of power increases you can expect.

But the fact is, all of these ugrades combined won't get you nearly as much power as a turbo install. Turbo options for the G20 have been covered thoroughly on this forum, so if you want more info, just do a search. Most people converting their SR20 equipped Nissans to turbo find an SR20DET engine from a foreign market and transplant it into their car. This is a very involved process, however, costing you $2000 plus and taking your car out of commission for a while. For most people on this forum(myself included), this is not a viable option. So we must bide our time until it becomes one.

In any case, if you're just looking for a spot more power, the mods above will suffice. About mods making the car last longer, I doubt it. In fact, if you live in a place where it rains heavily and the streets get flooded, you have to be very, very careful when driving with a CAI installed, because you could hydrolock your engine. This risk can be remedied by installing a by-pass valve, but that involves custom work(this has been done by at least one person on the forum). If you're interested in purchasing a CAI, there is a Group Buy going for the HotShot piece here.

Hope this answers some of your questions. There is a wealth of information on modding SR20 engines in the old posts on this forum, on se-r.net's mod pages and mailing list, and random G20 enthusiast's websites. The info is there, you just have to find it.

Thanks all- all appreciated

I guess the more Im reading the more Im realizing that I dont want to go over the top and mess with things that will come back and bite me in my pockets. I guess after finding this site , Im overwhelemed and at the same time yearining to hook it up like everyone else.
Im totally happy with the car myself, and the extent of things I would like to add would be only replacmenet parts that will add to its performance.
Im going to comtinue learning, and seeing what might be best for me. Are the many items on the infiniti that come standard that usually dont need to be messed with? or better question might be replaced with parts that arent as good as the standard ones it comes with. Can someone explain to me what a susupension kit will do for my car, what about strut bars? Im assuming I can wait for the cold air intake. I would like to also change the way the exhaust looks on my car, any suggestions?
Thanks all again, and Ill do my part and get more educated so I can come back more prepared.
One more thing are there any G20 clubs in the Northeast , specifically NYC or NJ, would love to meet some other g20 people in person.
