1993 Cavalier Needs new engine...but what one?!
i have a 1993 Cavalier RS that needs a new engine. it has a stock engine in it right now. I'd like to make this as painless as possible, but i'd also like to put an ecotech in it if possible. I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about engine swaps, but if i find an engine and everything by myself for a reasonable price, i have a guy that will do all of the work for me. I need to know the following things:
1) Where is a good place to buy a used engine? 2) What kind of engine should I buy for it? I'd like it to be faster and still really efficent on gas, which is why the ecotech sounded good to me. 3) Any general knowledge of engines, cavaliers specifically, engine swaps, and all that kind of good stuff that I should know. 4) would an engine from a newer style cavalier work? This is really going to be a learning experience for me. Also I don't have a ton of money to just blow on a brand new engine. thanks! |

Quote:
2.) Not sure, I dont have a lot of knowledge on the older Cavs. 3.) Yes, there is a ton you should know before you should attempt a tranplant by yourself. Probably safer to have a shop do it for you. 4.) Yes. Actually with the right amount of money, ANY engine will work. And if you dont have a lot of money, an engine swap may not be the best of ideas.

To change to the ecotec will be a real pain. You will need to change a lot more than the motor. Just find a junkyard 2.2 and the swap takes about 3 hours. Good Luck.
