Cool Progress: Ferrari Boxer 512BB

I have or have had every Boxer kit made in 1/24 scale and none of them are 100% accurate, The Marui kit probably is the best but is a major pain to build.

I'm taking an easy way out by building the ESCI/Entex kit, plus I'm curiuos as to how this one will look built.

I'm keeping it as close to box stock as possible but a few parts are so bad that I must do some kit bashing to improve it. Not sure what color yet, maybe silver/black or gunmetal.

So far I have filled the sink marks on the body and glued the rear clam shell on as the engine bay is very bad. The rear lower body is made on to the chassis and doesn't fit right in the wheel opening so I will fix that with putty.

When it's done I expect it to be a decent replica but the interior and tyres/rims will be a bit cheesy.

I am sure you are going to turn out a fantastic product. This kti is a bit rough too, but I think its the same kit used by Alex Kustov in his build up. Have you seen the italianhorses.net site? (I am sure you have).

I would love to see this one in silver (I am getting tired with red or yello Ferraries)

Good luck!

Sliver is a good choice. I'm sure you'll put your magic touch on it and it'll come out great.

Alex built the MPC kit which has a decent body, the nose is a little too long on it though.

I think I tossed my attempt at finishing this kit. If not I'll put up a pix tonight.
I really did'nt think the engine was that bad, considering how little you can see of it with the aircleaners in place and the limited view points allowed with the engine cover in place.

I have all three kits... maybe a mini review is in order.

Going to be interesting to see this one built up. It is a bit of a shame that there is no truly servicable kit of the 512BB on the market, because that means no good transkit for the 512BBLM.

Re: Progress: Ferrari Boxer 512BB

I've been working on and off the same kit for quite some time. I ended up scratchbuilding the seats, dashboard. Also, I got the 5 spoke wheels left over from the Fujimi's Daytona kit. The engine block is from Fujimi's Testarossa, and the tail lights and photo-etched parts are from Hasegawa's 328.

The body is already painted, and I'd say approx. 70% is done.

It requires a lot of work, but it can certainly be built to a nice replica. Good luck, and looking forward to seeing your result.

Thanks!

I'm going to borrow the interior, tail lights and windshield wiper from the Marui kit. Maybe tyres and rims from the IMAI kit.

I had already looked into using the Tamiya TR engine as a base to put in the Marui kit.

I'm going to thin the windshield trim and reshape the rear side windows on this body.

Look forward to seeing yours too!

You mean to say Alex built something which is less than perfect?

Relax kids, it's a joke.

Mine came out of a NITTO box, but looks just the same.

Here is the model with a couple of its pals.

I built this 20 years ago...
when I moved it back then, I wrapped it in a paper towel and when I pulled it back out it was wearing the pattern of the towel!
I really don't know where the Revell kit fits in the mix of Boxer kits.
Doe's anyone?

In my opinion the Nitto body is not one of the best, it looks too smooth and shapeless to me.

It's been a long time since I looked at the Revell, it isn't one that I kept in my stock.
