so how do your q series sound with just 75 watts? i have a jl 300/4 right now, but ive been weary of trying it with them, i didnt know if that would be enough, 75 watts is pushing em loud and clean? do they distort.. i was under the impression that they could take more.. i dunno, lemmeknow what you think and all.. im thinking about em as an upgrade to what i have and just moving what ihave to the back deck for rear fill, just attenuated so they arent too loud and dont ruin whatever makeshift imaging ill be getting without kickpanels

let's see. the 75 watts was enough for me. any louder and i'd go deaf. plus, i got the extra 60 watt amp from the deck. but the q's can handle up to 130watts i think. i can turn it up all the way, they don't distort, but mb quarts are known to sound like metal...esp the tweeters. though you can adjust it with the crossover, the louder might be better, then you'd have shit when you turn it down. so i keep it in the middle somewhere.

right now i have 500watts continuous. but i want to bump it up to maybe 800. either that or get a 1500watt ppi amp. not sure yet though, i dun think i need that much basss.....hehehe. pretty damn loud and good punch. plus, i'd need a few more caps if i was to run the ppi. and the good caps are like 500 bucks. =T but i got one HUGE cap right now, so i think it should handle. but yeah, i don't need to be heard a block away. though it would be cool sometimes. =) i'm cool with hear my car rumble from across the street. =) inside my house....hahaha.

very nice.. i was doing a similar install, i was gonna build walls but i was gonna flush the sub facing the trunk and cover it with a custom grill.. or maybe jl makes agrill like they did with the w6s that had long enough depth to cover the excursion, btw, what is the excursion...im curious.. huge rubber surround.. ya know=).. probably huge

but yea about the mb's the tweets do bite hard sometimes, they can be really harsh... whatd you set the att. thing to on the crossovers.. -2, -4? i had a pair of the rsb 328, the old 3ways in my old 240.. they were beautiful, i had em set to -4, dont the qseries have more settings? maybe im dreaming, i thought it was 0,-2,-4,-6.. oh well. i wonder, cause ive heard em hooked up to a big orion hcca.. they were getting like 225-250 each.. thats why i was wondering, i was thinking maybe they were underpowered with the 300.4, but hell i have a 300/4 in the closet, i may use mine on some q's myself, if htey sound good and loud.. cause im trying to just make it pretty clean, im not asking for spl or anything.. i just want whats proper..so i can blast sorta when im driving around town..if id like.. but clean too.

and as far as the 500watts go, ive heard the 500/1 was great with the w7s, but thats continuous, so whats the max on the sub 1000/1200w? or more? cause i heard about the 1000/1 coming out.. so i was thinking if i do stick with jl amps cause of what i know now about the 300/4, i may just wait.. but.. i dunno, maybe that would be too much bass, like you said.. im not trying to sit inside all of that noise.. so who knows

tellme what you think

i was thinking of two xtant 2200is and a xtant p500a (parametric eq), so that would be 600 to the sub, and 100x2 to the q series and id run the rear speakers with a resistor to the back off of the crossover, those last two screws.. i guess that would be enough..my problem is there isnt a dealer that carrys any of the two combinations.. the mb quart people carry phoenix gold... and so far im not really seeing what i want.. and vice versa...
so hopefully ill make the corect choice..either way, it'll sound good im sure.. im aiming for an eq though.. i have an audiocontrol 3.1 but i think itll look gay.. so the p500a really sounds better.. plus itll make for a bit more of a challenging lay out i guess..

thanks for the info

one love

That's a sweet looking setup - though I couldn't do something like that, since my rear strut would get in the way and not only that, I would need a way to access the dampening on the suspension setup. May be there's a way around that - not sure if something can be done about it. I dig the LED's - nice work!

sorry took a while to get back to ya'll. hope you read this. hehehe. ok the excursion is a whoppin 2 inches. fat, definitely fat. hehehehe. set my crossover at -4, since i that was the middle ground for decent leveled music. if you turn it up louder, then you need to reset it, but since i'm not one to blow out my ears everytime i get into the car, hehe. -4 was perfect. plus if you set it to low, then it sounds like crap when the volume is down. =T third, the most a w7 can handle, that i've hooked upto is 1000 watts. no more. but heard they can handle 1500....who'd do that? hehehe. and to my thoughts for you. go for the EQ. =)

fortunately the place i work at has just about everything. =)

ok..sorry this is long. hehehe

to atomic-G no, the strut wouldn't get in the way, the sub would come out more. i'll show you how, i'll take a picture of mine, i still have room to put a strut. =)

How much did that cost you? I have the amps mounted on the seat and a dinky little box in the back and it's ugly as f*ck.
I want to do something similiar, but I know it's going to be expensive as crap.
