Studio 27 photoetch.

I wondered what peoples general opinion and experiences are regarding S27 photoetch upgrade sets are? I brought the set for the Renault 5 rally car sometime ago and was quite disapointed. Firstly there is no translation into english to say what the parts are - ok most of them are obvious like brake discs and grills but others i have no clue even with all the reference pics i have??? Just a simple diagram would do! But more importantly some parts are too big - in this case the grills to go over the intakes on the wheel arches. grrr!

Just bought a load of the kits for the rally cars (Xsara, 206, Focus and Impreza), although I haven't got around to doing these kits yet so couldn't say on the fit of the parts etc. The kit I'm doing at the moment is a Studio 27 kit and some of the photo-etch in that is a little on the big side.

Steve: You going to do a WRC Corolla. I've got some reference pics I can share with you. They had a WRC corolla at the autoshow this year and I managed to get some pics. They wouldn't roll the windows down but they are still usable, sort of.

They probably adhere to the idea that if they give you too much, you can cut the extra away, but if they give you too little, you're SOL!

Anyone ever try Scale Motorsports? They have some cool photoetch sets for F1, GT, and rally cars; some spectacular-looking composite fiber decals; and more...

Look at their Porsche 956 Super Kit!

LOL! I wanted to climb up on the platform of the Subaru WRC to take pics of the inside, but they wouldn't let me...

Really! I was thinking of ordering the Studio 27 Mazda 787B PE set and the Impreza WRC 2001 PE set. I have translations on hand for the 787B but not for the Impreza! Maybe I will order the set they offer at www.twoguysracing.com but it is quite expensive.

They have the pre-cut carbon fibre decals for the Corolla here if any of you Brits are interested. Price is about £10.
I can bring a set back with me.

The latest S27 sets do have English translations. MY CLK ones do and so do the new Astra and Focus ones I have. I also have a mate in Japan that used to translate them before they started English. SO if anyone needs a translation, send me a scan of the parts list or a list of what ones you may need. Friends of mine on the yahoo group forums on car modelling have a database of translations.
