Headers

I have a 96 Cobra and I'm going to be changed all of the exhaust. I'm wondering if Full Length Headers are 50 state legal an if they arent are they legal in new Jersey? Also if they are, would I have to get a shorty pipe for it or could i get the normal OEM size X pipe. Id be buying an X pipe with high flow cats and either Flowmaster CB or a custom Magnaflow side exhaust

long-tubes are not emissions legal. avoid them if you're in a state that enforces smog laws and does emissions testing. if you get them you have to either get custom pipes made (As i did) or get a matching short h- or x-pipe.

Re: Headers

Yes you will have to have a different headpipe than stock ones. Also, depending on where the collectors end up on your headers, you may have to tweak the exhaust hangers to get the rest of the stuff in the right places. I was noticing you cardomain profile, nice car by the way, and I saw you were thinking of using MAC products for your headers. As a word of caution, their customer support is poor. I purchased a set of longtubes from them for my Stang and they did not fit. They were COMPLETE jerks when I called them back with my results. I purchased a cat-back through them for my other Stang a few years back and overall I like them. I am sorry to say that they wont be getting my business again. Just wanted to give you my opinion.

#1 LT headers are emission legal if the have 02 bungs which you put your original O2's back in it will pass emission testing.

#2 You need a new x/h-pipe with long tube headers, you need one with cats to keep it emission legal and pass the sniffer test.

#3 MAC LT headers are fine in my opinion... they are as good as any header that is in there price range. Put patience is needed to install headers when it's not a solid flange type.

#4 Putting LT on a 96-04 Cobra is the ultimate test in patience.... Ford flat rate is 12 hours labor for the stockers. I could do a set on a lift at my work in 6-7. Good luck and have patience!!!!
