Re: 70's Battle
What??? No 1970 LS6 Chevelle? Beats the snot out of those cars
![]() Seriously, anything with a Hemi usually provides slight performance benefits, but HUGE financial differences. The 'stang 429 and the Boss were both great cars as well.

Of those, #4
1970 'Stangs had just about the best-looking taillights ever, IMHO. Sadly, some of the best 1970's cars with rompin' stompin' V8's weren't sold in the US, like Monteverdi and Bristol.

Re: 70's Battle
There is not much range you have there.
They are all realistically products of the 60's, not the 70's, regardless of the model year. I would suggest a '73 Trans Am 455 SD, for real 70's muscle. BTW thats a really tasteful sig you have there ALTVR. |

Re: 70's Battle
Out of that list, the 1970 Hemi Challenger. I don't think the '71's can compete due to the fact of environmental regulations coming in. Mustangs are cool, but you see them almost all the time. A hemi challenger is truely a rare find =)

Re: 70's Battle
P.S. Did they make a 1971 Challenger Hemi? I'll have the production numbers on that at home, but I don't think they offered one that year... but I'll check!

IMO, the BEST cars to come from the 70s were: 1971 Plymouth GTX, 440-6, 4spd, and, 1971 Dodge Charger Superbee, 426 HEMI, 4 spd. Very rare cars, though.

I had to check my book on this. They did make a '71 Challenger with the hemi. The production numbers are as follows (not including the 383's):
1970 Challenger: (First number being hardtop, second being convertible) 440 4bbl Automatic (1,886; 129) 440 4bbl four speed (916; 34) 440 6bbl Automatic (793; 38) 440 6bbl four speed (847; 61) 426 Hemi Automatic (150; 4) 426 Hemi four speed (137; 5) 1970 Challenger RT/SE 440 4bbl Automatic (733) 440 4bbl four speed (142) 440 6bbl Automatic (161) 440 6bbl four speed (135) 426 Hemi Automatic (37) 426 Hemi four speed (22) 1971 Challenger R/T (only produced coupes) 440 6bbl Automatic (121) 440 6bbl four speed (129) 426 Hemi Automatic (12) 426 Hemi four speed (59) In '71 you couldn't get the challenger with the R/T package in convertible and you had to have that package to get the 426 or 440. If you wanted a convertible you were stuck with the 383. You could however get a convertible cuda (IMO with the best grill they made for it) with a 426 or 440 (they made just 2 'Cuda 426 four speed convertibles in '71) In 1971 they upped the compression on the 440 from 9.7:1 to 10.3:1 so I would imagine the '71 440 to have a bit more power. The 1970's power numbers: 426 was 'factory' rated at 425hp@5000 and 490ft/lbs@4000. The 440's were rated (4bbl and 6bbl) at 375hp@4600 & 390hp@4700 and 480ft/lbs@3200 & 490ft/lbs@3200. This is just nuts, almost 500ft/lbs at a little over 3k rpm? wow... IMO I have to stick with the '70 challengers grill. I think it just to be cleaner then the two piece '71. Just useless info for everyone
