Modifying a 1999 GT

Ok I began to start looking into things I could do with my car. My early decision was that I wanted to redo the entire exhaust system. As of now I am looking at BBK Full legnth Headers, Followed by OffRoad Crossover pipes, and then American Thunders. If that is a possible setup. However these items are listed as non-emissions legal. Does that mean I would need to swap it all before an emissions test? I dont know the IL laws for how often I would need one, but it could be a problem.

Secondly would full exhaust be a good recomended starting spot for modifying a 1999 GT? I hear alot of people say rear gears...However I am really unfamiliar with what these do, and what the size differences are, so if anyone would like to hook me up with some answers, big thanks.

Like I said, while I have no money, Im in the "research" stage, so any suggestions would help greatly. Thanks guys.

If you did lt headers that had 02 sensors bungs and put the O2's back in, x or h-pipe with hiflow cats and a cat-back exhuast it will pass emission testing and is fine.

Gears refer to the gears in you rear-end. you have like 3.27's right now a very common street gear to switch to would be 3.73's. This would increas your acceleration(0-60, 1/4) but would lower your top-end some and raise ya rpm's on the highway some but nothing that is not liveable and is well worth the trade-off.

A full exhuast is a good starting point and also gears are definetly an awesome way too. Gears would be something I would have a pro install so you'd belooking at $400-$1000 depending where you go to have the gears $200ish plus install, done.

Re: Modifying a 1999 GT

yup gears and exhaust are good ideas. A guy at a garage told me hell put my gears in for 250 so gears plus the kit(for install) are about 220 to 260 some kits are like 80 dollers. they are need presion work and no mess ups! they are expesive to put it because of the prescion work u have to sit there and adjust the backlash of the ring and pinion to its prefect u could great it 1st or 2ed try or they 8th time. u have to put these little spacers(dont know what they are called on each side till its perfect so its trail and error. if u can watch powerblock tv on spike on sat morning and sunday morning they talk about gears all the time i have seen it on tv atleast 10 times. They do good tech talks and it will help you alot alot learning stuff about gears etc.
