If money wasn't a problem I'd take a Saleen S7 over a Molser. Better looks IMO and probably better build quality.

There very close and I'm not sure of the price of the Mosler but I would choose the S7. The S7 although not completely comfortable on the street is fairly liveable unlike the Mosler while just pure joy to drive on a track is also pure misery on the street.

I haven't heard much about the S7 being great for the streets either.

Neither will be a comfy ride. However on the Mosler will depend on the model, the S will be far more civilised than the Photon.

Performance wise my vote goes to the photon, that thing is barelly heavier than an elise. And furthermore GTstang you need to take a look at the Mosler's engine then at your sig

Mosler. It's the American equivalent of a Radical SR3, except without the wannabe Pilbeam styling.

Re: S7 vs Molser?

Saleen S7 purely because of reliability. In the 10+ times I've seen a Mosler on track in person, it's run more than 5 laps without some sort of problem once. That was in a 24-hr race in FL, and it made it 1.5 hrs before dropping out. The S7 is FAR more reliable.

You're kidding right? The Mosler MT900 with Joao Barbosa at the wheel completely gutted the competition in the GTS class in the Grand-Am series, including winning its class at the 24hours of Daytona. Moslers also dominate in the British GT championship, beating the tar out of TVR Tuscans, Chrysler Vipers, Morgan Aero 8 coupes, and Lister Storms.

The Saleen's current biggest success is I believe a few class wins in the FIA GT. The car is almost the spectacular failure in the ALMS that the Lamborghini Murciealage R-GT was, and never matched the success of the Mosler MT900 WHICH IT COMPETED WITH in the Grand-Am.

Face it, the Mosler has the better competition record.

What do you think the words "The S7 although not completely comfortable on the street is fairly liveable". Do you think I was singing the great praises of the Saleen S7 being like Cadillac when it comes to driving comfort and ride or something?

The Saleen S7 is not a great road car it has blind spots from hell and many other things etc.., But when you compare it to the Mosler Photon it is a 10X better occasionally take a weekend cruise to show-off how bad-ass you are car. So for me that makes it a better car cause I would like to be able to enjoy places other than a race track.

If you are going to have a ride so rocky that it practically defeats the purpose of having comfort, then what is the point to have one slightly more suitable than the other at the sacrafice of performance? If the S7 is going to be driven only on weekends, why can't the same be done with a Mosler?

My point is if both rides aren't comfortable, there is no point in discriminating.

There is a point in discriminating... These are street cars/supercars not race cars put one against an F1, Indy car and the numbers aren't that impressive. So one of them is adequate enough where driving it on a 3-hour trip, half-way down one will not drive you to want to shoot yaself for doing it while the other will.

At the sacrifice of performance.... the sacrifice against the Mosler Photon is very minimial where the addition of comfort and streetability are actually rather large. Even with the S7 being a much better street car it still is no GT car by far. This should speak to you of how large the Mosler's deficiences in this area are.

Re: S7 vs Molser?

What makes sportscars like the S7, Enzo, Carera GT, Zonda, etc. different from your average Focus or Accord is the emphasis about performance over any other trait a car might have. Just so that we are clear, both the Saleen and the Mosler are being used as race cars in their respective series. They aren't race cars like an F1 or Indy car, but that is a moot point. Are cars like the R8 sportscar prototype and CTS-V race-modded road car not race cars because they don't have the performance of an F1 car?

If I remember correctly, Steve Saleen allowed the construction of the S7 with full intentions of having it raced in a series seeing intensive track testing on an early prototype with a rear wing. And they have been weaseling their way out of adding airbags to their car for some time now. I'm not sure what you are trying to say in those last few lines. How about giving us a few examples about the Mosler's deficiencies?
