1:12 wheels
Do any of the Fujimi 1:12 Skylines come with two sets of wheels? Is there any source for aftermarket 1:12 wheels? Or tires (not slicks?). Just curious - a shot in the dark.

Re: 1:12 wheels
Being a much more uncommon scale, I'd imagine you'd have a hell of a time finding 1:12 wheels, much less a variety of them.
For the tires, this idea came to mind: Take the kit tires and put them on a drill, or other rotary tool, sand the living hell out of them until there's no tread left. Then recarve new treads with a pattern. I think that the hard part would be the new tread, but I have seen it down before. (Carving rain slicks out of regular slicks.) HTH

The only 1/12 scale R/C car wheels you will find are usually racing foams and will not look anything like what you probably want.

Re: 1:12 wheels
check out pro-line. go check out a R/C car mag. wheels and tires have taken a major step forward in the past year or two.

Proline does not make "scale" looking 1/12 scale wheels. The only R/C cars out on the market today that are 1/12 scale are pan car, carpet racers.
1/10 wheels have a diverse selection but they would be entirely too big, heck they aren't even proportionate on R/C cars. Take my advice on this matter as I work at HobbyTownUSA and I am fully aware of R/C products. And if you aren't talking about wheels/rims from R/C cars. The dimensions and side wall size of R/C car tires would not be a good choice either. R/C cars have a very small sidewall not suitable for adapting to a 1/12 scale model and still retain realism. |

Re: 1:12 wheels
Will, I have spent many hours looking for me rims for my 1:12 projects and drawn a blank every time.
When the time comes, i'm going to have to make my own. But it the tires which are the hardest part. Have you received your 1:12 now then. If so did you notive that the front wheels are smaller that the rears, If I remember correctly 15" front and 16" rears. Maybe an order with HLJ for a spare set of Fujimi Skyline BBS rims etc would be the other way to go. |

I agree with Hiroboy, [email protected] has been a great help for me when I wanted only engine parts or wheels from some kit that I like (weeell, U may guessed it's the RB26DETT from Tamiya, yes but I've managed to get several other parts as well). U need kit number and the part number from the kit but how do U know wich kit has the wheels U like? The box art can be misleading.

Re: 1:12 wheels
Hiro - I think I'm going to be forced to make them myself, as well. Yes, I have received my NSX, and man is it ever intimidating. Soon I'll get up the nerve to baby step my way through it. For the rims I've pretty much decided that I'm going to have to cast some resin centers and use some tubing (1.5" dia pipe/tubing is 18" in 1/12, that would be a good start) since I don't have a lathe or anything. Seperate centers and rims would facilitate adding offset to the rears (hot on an NSX!) Tires will indeed be the hard part, and I wonder, are the Fujimi tires solid or are they like the NSX tires (hollow like RC)? If they are solid, they could conceivably be stretched, or even cast in resin. The only problem there is that I'd like to have 19"-18" or 18"-17" on the NSX - they look so good with stepped wheels (right, Jay?)
Skunk_werkz - I've been looking at RC wheels, and found some Yokomo rims that are close in diameter. They also have the fake rivet detail, and if that was trimmed off and the diameter made smaller, they would be suitable for centers, I think. I am reluctant to ask HLJ for the parts - I see that as a service for people who get the kits damaged, and I don't want to take advantage of HLJ's courtesy by just asking for parts. Imagine how many Fujimi Skylines they would have sitting around, missing wheels! That's an expensive kit, to boot, not a $15 Tamiya. But, it looks as good an option as any. Perhaps I can ask them for some wheels, cast them, and send them back? Yeah right.

I was recently wondering what there was in the way of wheels for an old built-up Monogram Ferrari Testarossa 1/12 kit I have here. To the two of you who wuld make their own wheels, what style were you thinking of? If it's something that might be appropriate for the Testarossa I might be interested if you'd be willing to cast a second set. What will you do about tires?

Re: 1:12 wheels
I was ideally looking for mesh (BBS but further apart spokes) if I could find some to modify. But if I have to make them completely from scratch, Rays TE37s would be much easier. The idea would be just to cast the centers, and machine the inner and outer lip since I wand different offset in the front and the back, and I also want 19" in the rear and 18" in the front. Making the centers seperate from the lips would make them more modular, like a 1:1 3-peice. If that plan ever gets off the ground, I would be willing to reshoot a few more centers. But don't bank on anything from me until you see it.
