£115 ($200) to get my car released from an illegal parking space that is so poorly distinguished from the adjacent space where it's ok to park. And they can't just send you the fine, they have to clamp it so you can't go anywhere in the two hours it takes them to come and un-clamp your car. What a fucking joke. Sons of fucking bitches.

Take pictures of the poor markings for a judge to look at. If it's as poorly marked as you say it is you'll easily get off. I've been towing since 1990 and I've NEVER seen a legally parked car booted or towed. What I have seen is a lot of people making excuses about why they think they are special and violated the rules.

but seriously I can't stand either parking enforcement. They are a bunch of revenue hungry crooks. This is why they mark badly restricted parking spots so you'll park and get ripped off. And I just love parking clamps, like blocking the car on the spot for longer will help the parking problem.

Unfortunately the guy who clamped me works for the local council so even if i remove the clamp, ill still be liable to pay the penalty charge (and a damage penalty!). However if the clamp belongs to a private company you can just snap the thing off (which i would - with my BARE HANDS ).

I actualy happen to hold a lot of respect for parking wardens.

I drive a truck with an extra wide body and with out the parking wardens clearing out the loading zones in the city I would have a really hard time doing my job.

If you can't read the signs and you get a ticket then tough shit. Learn to read before you learn to drive.
If the parking is badly sign posted then blame the council, its thier fault, not the parking wardens, they are only doing thier job.


That said although 99.9% of the parking wardens I deal with are good helpful people just doing thier job, I have meet the 0.01% who was not. And I told her so. I believe the words complete bitch might have been used.

Clearly you haven't encountered a London traffic warden whose compensation is directly related to the number of tickets he / she issues. Oh, and did i mention the chance to win a car for the most prolific "ticketer" in the council?

Thanks Moppie, I manage an equity portfolio and funnily enough one of the requirements of the job was knowing how to read.
On this particular occasion, yes, i would say it is the council's fault and not the warden, but dealing with the rude fuckers who clamped my car on the phone - i was perfectly civil - was far from a pleasant experience. Ive had numerous run-ins with wardens and i can tell you i've never met a decent one. Not one. In fact, they are such rude, pushy bastards it makes you want to kick the shit out of them.

Example:
Have just parked on a meter on a quiet road, undoing seatbelt and about to exit my car.
Warden walks over to the car and starts writing a ticket.
Gf puts window down: "wtf are you doing?".
Warden: "no money in meter, im giving you a ticket".
Me: "of course there's no money in the meter, i just got here, you saw that"
Warden: "so put some money in the meter" (notes my license plate and continues to write)
Me: "what the fuck are you writing for"
Warden doesn't say anything and keeps writing. At this point im ready to explode but decide to try something my friend told me about.
The warden is a black guy. Most of them are. So i put a really angry face on (didn't take much effort, incidentally) and say loudly "DID YOU JUST CALL ME A WHITE BASTARD"?
The guy stops writing and looks up, completely taken back. I didn't even give him a chance to say anything. "WHAT'S YOUR NAME, I'M GONNA FILE A COMPLAINT".
At this point he closes his little notepad and walks off.


That is typical of the kind of attitude you get from wardens in London so please don't tell me they're "only doing their job".

And while i'm ranting, how about the time i got towed outside my gf's last year? Effectively the council changed the time after which you're allowed to park for free from 6.30pm to 8.00 pm overnight. Am i supposed to read the fucking sign EVERY fucking day to make sure it's the same? No. I didnt. I'd been parking there for years. I came out of my gf's place, and hey presto my car wasnt there. I thought it was stolen but upon calling the cops they said it might have been towed. They were spot on. What a fucking joke.
