what is the diffrence between a powerglide tranmission and a fmx transmission. tthis is for a 1967 mustang 289/271 horse

The powerglide is a gm transmission, fmx is a ford transmission.

i would try finding a c4 or c6 . I ve never been a fan of the fmx .

But you don't have to remove the FMX from the car to work on it...

I too have never been a fan of the fmx. If I were you, I'd look for a c4. c6 would probably be overkill.

With your HP go with a c4 like Tony H said. People start using Powerglides when they get to fairly high horsepower levels. A 'Glide is a two speed trans that does shock the tires as bad on the launch. But, they're overkill on on cars usually running higher than a low 10.

I built a 68 mustang. I replaced the 302 stock motor and automatic with a 90 model 5 litre roller motor and c4 transmission. It came alive like gangbusters. The stock rear end was geared too high but if you got into it at about 30mph it gave a wild ride.
