fold down face receivers
i'm looking to change the stock honda tape deck in my sol, but i was reading through crutchfield that flip-down face units aren't capable of being used because of the radio cover. well, i was looking forward to getting a cd stereo that the face that flipped down to a cd insert behind it. i'm just wondering if anyone has this sort of receiver and if it clears the radio cover when folded down. pictures would be great. also, anyone recommend any particular headunit??

they are full of crap, its a close fit mind you, but it will fit, I have a sony CDF-5700 or sumthin like that theres about an 8th of an inch gap between the end of the face when you filp it down to the cover but it will fit, and even if it touches(which you radio would have to stick outrageously far out to do), the CD loader is uaually towards the top so youll be able to get the CD in...so go for it

Fold down stuff fits.... just a matter of finding one that doesn't come out too far. Here's a hint.. try going to a locally owned shop, as opposed to best buy/circuit city/big name corporate stores... usually, local shops are much more willing to do test fits and/or take the time to take measurements to make sure your head unit fits. A buddy of mine dropped about $400 on a new (Pioneer, I believe) HU, and while it was badass, the thing destroyed itself the first time he flipped it... most HU's don't have a sensor for when they can't move any farther, and so consequently, SNAP!

Yes ive got to agree with Emily on this 1, as i have just put my alpine deck in my sol. it closes, but not with the face folded down, just have to be a bit careful. I dont trust the installers in my area, so i do it myself, save a heap of moola, and just take the time to get it wired up + bolted in proplerly, and enjoy the result. Just one tip though, if you dont know what it is, leave it alone!!!
