Question hose hanging on rear axle

Maybe some one can tell me what this is and what i need to do to put it where it should go.
There is a rubber hose on the rear axle of my 99 ford f 150that is just hanging there. It is about 9" from the wheel itself and it has a clip of some kind on the end of it. The hose itself is about 18 inches long. I don't know what it is or where it needs to be reattatched at or to. Any help would be appreciated.

Also my ABS light is coming on intermitantly. Sometimes it stays on for a while, other times it goes out after a few miles. Does this rubber hose have anything to do with that system?

thanks in advance for you time to answer this stupid womans' questions. If I weren't so strapped for $ I would take it to the shop. I am just a little mechanically savvy so if it is simple to fix I know I can do it. Help please.

Nita

the diameter on the hose is about 1/2 inch or the size of a woman's pointer finger. it looks like it may go up to the frame area but there is nothing on the other side of the frame to attatch it to unless something fell off.
thanks for trying to help!!!

Sounds like the air vent hose for the rearend. There should be a clip high on the frame to attach it to.

Re: hose hanging on rear axle

One end hooks somewhere up on the frame (where water and dirt can't get in) and the other end hooks onto the top of the rear differential. You should be able to see a little spot where it is supposed to hook in.

Re: hose hanging on rear axle

If your antilock light is just pulsing, you may need to remove the rear sensor on the housing and clean it out. That sensor is magnetic and will collect fine metal particles. After a time is will cause the light to actuate and will also mess with you speedo. Check your speed above 75 mph and see if it fluctuates (bounces).
