Rim size isn't much of an issue...the issue is the diameter of the tire.

Re: NewRIms...speedometer addjstment
if you get the right size tire there should be no need to change it.

Re: NewRIms...speedometer addjstment
do a percentage calculation on the difference of the circumfirance of the tires. If it differs by say 10%, then your speedometer will be off by roughly 10%

Re: NewRIms...speedometer addjstment
If you need to correct it, there are ways. Yours is probably one of two possibilities. Either the computer needs to be reprogrammed or there are DIP switches somwhere either in the computer or the dash. Sometimes there are little coded plugs, but its not common.
Head over to the accord forum and someone there might know.

Re: NewRIms...speedometer addjstment
i dunno how to do it but; nobody answered his question, and my(CRX) has a mechanical speedometer(actual cable going to differential)so i dont think it runs off any electronic switches(dont know for sure though); just thought i might add that in.

Re: NewRIms...speedometer addjstment
The 96 Accord should be all electronic. In 96 it switched to VSS (vehicle speed sensors) to go along with OBD2. It can use that signal to drive a speedo, so there is no reason for the cable. Not saying it can't be a cable, just no reason for the double engineering. Let's just say that I've never seen a 96 or newer vehicle with a cable speedo, but they could be out there.

Re: NewRIms...speedometer addjstment
I'm not sure if this applies to import cars, but on cars with mechanical speedometers, the speedometer is driven by a gear in the [transmission?]
Changing the ratio for that gear recalibrates speedometer. its selected by tire size and differential gear ratio. This is completely subjective, of course. It probably doesn't apply to Hondas. The dealer would know. |
