1.8 - Vr6

I want the 4 door golf and I am finally excited to buy a new car. I am getting a lot closer to doing so but I want to ask-

What am I missing by buying the 1.8T golf vs the 1.8 GTI?
Can I modify it without screwing it up and comprising the warranty?
Why wont VW offer leather in the 4 door Golf here in the US (they have the 4 door gti for go* sakes in Europe)?

Thumbs up

Sancalisto: If your going to buy a four door 1.8 Golf make sure that what you want. That would be a waste of money for yourself. Now the model "GTI" that I would recommend would be the 2.8 VR6, but it only comes in two door model so it's seems like alittle less space but what you lose in space you gain in engine performance!!!.......I own a 95 GTI-VR6 they only come in two doors, but tell you the truth you really can't tell the difference once you get....plus I think the two door look more sporty and the 2.8 small block six will make you forget all about the 1.8T four door. Another thing any kind of after market part you put on your new or used VW will void your warranty, If it doesn't come from the VW factory VW won't warranty it. I've put after market part on my VEE-DUBB and I haven't had any problems, just look out when doing engine modification stuff. I'll just say this do the research before you buy anything, test drive them both and then make your mind up from that point!!!!

Peace and Happy Vee-Dubbing

...

you also dont get the smoked tails on the golf....the GTI is also a little lighter considering you have 2 dr instead of 4 not including the hatch. The VR6 definitely has some power....i love that mean growl it makes too....the 2002 models will be nicer....24v 201 hp VR6 instead of 12v 174 hp...and the 20v 1.8T is now has 170 hp instead of 150....im waiting for the new VR6...ooo its gonna be awesome

the one thing to note is that with the 1.8t motor vs the vr6 is the addition of power...
for say, 500 bones, you can get like 50 hp in a 1.8, but not anywhere near as close in a vr6... so you need to consider that...
not like the vr6 is bad... but hey, for your money... its easier to mod a turbo motor... and you can get some wicked power outta either motor...

I say get the VR6, it's way better than the turbo. You can get the Shriek Supercharger to boot. Crazy HP!!!

in reference to that though...
what i was saying is that for a stock motor... dollar for dollar you will not get as much outta the vr6...
if you upgrade the turbo... hell it would be pretty quick... but to get that outta the vr6, you have to add a turbo or s/c...
i know what you are saying, but if you just talk addons, not power adder upgrades, the turbo will win out there...

not that the vr6 is a bad motor, but you have to add a turbo to it or an s/c to get a similar power output as an upgraded chip etc on the turbo... thats what i mean

Doesn't work, but I can imagine. My friend showed one from this guy that turned his GTI to rear wheel drive. Makes monstrous hp and looks like a killer.

I had the 1.8T jetta four door for a while and it was really fun to drive. The torque is at a nice and low RPM which makes the car really feel quick. The one down side is that it was in the shop 6 different times the first year I owned it. VW ended up buying it back from me for every cent so they did stand behind their cars, although the warranty sucks and it is the reason I didn't get another. (You only get 24,000 miles until you have to take over the maintenance and it can get pretty routine from what I have heard while talking to people with VW's in my area. The motor, turbo, and transmission are covered until 100k though. The 10 year, 100k mile thing fooled me into believing that covered most repairs I would incur) Therefore, I say if you are buying the car to mod don't worry about the warranty. You could save money with the turbo and use that to start the transformation. Just chipping the turbo can get you 30+ hp. I am warning you that this advice comes from a conservative fellow who bought his second car for the warranty and not performance and is now wondering if he should have thrown caution to the wind - and bought the WRX.

1.8t - VR6

ok let's divert from power for a minute, take into concideration that the manumatic and 17inch stocks aren't available on the VR6... and sheeeiitt.. those are important decissions, i don't have a car but am definately going dub as my first ride, want a VR6 but probably will get 1.8T due to manumatic (tiptronic) because traffic is a killer where i live

MADD luv to all the german car owners and as for lawnmowers (hondas with big spoilers and loud pipes just resemble lawnmowers) :finger:

The 24v is a DBW OBD2 engine, this will be a PITA in a '89.
The O2M transmission will not fit either.
