Back firing cobra

My cobra backfires when i punch it??? I dont know what the guys who had it before me did to it. i think the timing could be advanced but im not sure ... what can i do

While ur accelerating or when u let off? I think it might be ur plugs or plug wires.

Mine's been doing this too, I''ve been thinking it's fuel loading up, but it did seem to start doing so after a tuneup...

It sounds to me like you need more advance timing at a lower rpm. I experienced this in a 23 fad T with a 350 motor after I changed to a higher lift longer duration cam. At the moment i stomped it ,it would backfire flames from the carb almost in my face and certainly get my attention. I changed the timing to a quicker advance setting and then instead of backfiring , it would get sideways.

I may try 14 instead of 12, but mine seems to be a fuel thing, really. Only the right bank does it, and gives a little poof of black smoke out the pipe as it bangs...

thanks for all the input... i need to change my plugs and wires anyways so im gonna try that as well as look at the timing ...

thanks ...

oh yeah ... its when i take off not when i let off the gas .. it does it in 1st 2nd or 3rd depending on how hard im running it.

It could be a bad fuel injector, the injector driver could be leaving it open to long.
