Re: racing transmissions and rear ends

My question is if you are serious about making 1600 ft. lbs of torque, what are you doing asking on a forum like this? Anyone doing this kind of stuff is usually working with the shop that sponsors them....

Re: racing transmissions and rear ends

depends on how lucky you are. Some hold up under abused superchargers/nitrous for a season or two, and some blow on the first pass with a stock motor and sticky tires.

They aren't too strong really, but they'll live as long as your tires aren't too sticky...

11,000?.....yeah..Anyway, about the transmission, if you really make 1,600 lb/ft of torque then I think even the mighty T-56 will bite the dust. I believe Lentech makes an automatic that has a lifetime warranty on cars with up to 1,000 hp. As far as rear end, Moser, Mark Williams, and maybe Currie enterprises could help you out. I think the only rear end that could take that kind of pounding would be the Ford 9 inch.

Re: racing transmissions and rear ends

Don't take this as flaming too much, but I still say anyone who is gonna build their own 1,000 HP TT engine isn't gonna realistically be ASKING us here what tranny/rearend to run.

Most built windsors w/TT on the street will hover in the 550-700 HP range. And that's a serious amount of money.

An 8.8 rear w/stock 28 spline axles will live to 400 RWHP in a fairly heavy car, as long as you don't really beat it. 31 spline w/a detroit even more, and is more reliable on slicks. I'd start there and if you break that, it's time for a back-halved car w/a 9-inch.

a well built powerglide and a Strange engineering pro-built 9" no 5-sp. is going to hold that much power and your ets will be much lower on an auto
