Compartment next to sunroof switches.

I have a 97 SR5. I have always wondered what that little fold down compartment next to the sun-roof switches was used for. Toyota cold have thought of something else, what is it like an ID holder or something.

Re: Compartment next to sunroof switches.

Could be you're talking about the garage door opener holder/actuator

Re: Compartment next to sunroof switches.

i had the same questions for a while. in my 1998 ltd the space is too small for a garage door opener. I keep my parking pass in there. perfect spot and quick to get to.

Hmm... i thought in the instruction manual it says either sunglass holder, or you can use the little pegs and the velcro for a garage door opener.

i think i know which one your talking about. i have a 95 and i use it to hold my ID card for when i go on base. i need it every time i go though the gate and it makes it easy to get to. i also keep a spare $20 or so in there for emergencies....not really usefull for anything else. def not for a garage door opener....litterally only enough space for an id card...sound like the right one?

Re: Compartment next to sunroof switches.

At least some 3rd generation 4Runners have a compartment that is made specifically for garage door openers center overhead in front of sunroof controls. I have the manual for the 2000 and that is what it is for. They even provide mounting velcro and pins for actuating the opener when it is installed in the compartment. Of course you can do what you want with the compartment.

YMMV on other vehicles.

As far as 1995 4Runners go, since it is a totally different vehicle, you have whatever you have.

Re: Compartment next to sunroof switches.

The 1992 4runner I have has a compartment there that is used for ID and/or Insurance paper...later ones have compartment for sunglasses and even later ones still have same placed compartment for multi use

HMm.. are you sure it's too small for garage opener? mine fits in there fine. I have a 2000 (3rd generation). I use one of those genie remotes. Those are pretty small. I guess the ones that wont fit are those older ones with a huge button on there.

Re: Compartment next to sunroof switches.

Mine is huge/old. I think they modified that compartment in different years of 3rd gen 4Runners.

Re: Compartment next to sunroof switches.

Yeah the 96&97s should have the small compartment. My door opener is pretty small too, but not small enough. In 98 they changed the a/c control and radio and all that stuff, so I would imagin they'd fix the small compartment then.

If yours is like my '94, it give you access to manually moving the sunroof. When you flip the cover down, you should see a small hole going into the roof. Through the hole is a bolt used to move the sunroof.

Dude ....(4runnerjim) while I can appreciate your helpfulness and eagerness to help others out....you really should pay attention to the dates of posts...if so you would have noticed that you are replying to a thread that is over 5 months old even though your reply is dead on correct...no offense intended buddy and tyvm for your interest and willingness to offer input/help in this forum.

Take care and have a great weekend :o)

What's even worse is when someone resurrects an old post just to continue an argument...(and the guy he was arguing with is banned)
