Panda vs ... like everybody

Lastnight was glorious.

Lastnight was our monthly Z meet, in which anything and everything is allowed to come out. Keeps things interesting, keeps things fun.

This month instead of going out into the back roads for our 'post meet' drive. We decided on a cruise down the coast. Which turned out to be a 40 mile long street race, with the occasional cruising.

The cars that went out on the drive were: Mine of course, "03 350z, 280zx Turbo, Z31 300zx turbo, a '71 240z with built L24, a '70 240z with heavy modified SBC, An early 70s Buick Skylark, '04 Honda S2000 and a S13 240sx with SR swap... and a Ford Windstar... our camera crew. So 10 Cars. When we started we also had a Turbo Civic, a Z32 300zxTT and a WRX. But these guys are our friends and they had to leave early, but the followed us down part way.

Ah ok... onto the point of this thread.

Cruising down the Infamous Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) I'm in the lead cause I'm the one who knows where we're stopping in Dana Point. Up in the front with me I've got the 350z, the S13 and the S2000.

S13 comes up next to me, he guns it to bait me. I downshift and we take off. His car wasn't running all that great lastnigh, had a nasty exhaust leak so my car easily walked all over him. Plus he already said I'd toast him. But he wanted to see my car go, so of course he started a race. I put 3-4 car lengths on him easily in 4th gear which I should of gone to 3rd gear to get into boost immediately. Oh well. (I was set at 10psi) (S13 had a driver and passenger)

S2000 is right next to us and wants to play. I downshift to 3rd to catch up to them, They flew past me and the S13 after we finished racing. So as I start to make up ground to get even in 3rd gear so we can race. I get about to where my nose is at his rear bumper and he floors it. And so do I, I sling shot past him in 3rd gear shift to 4th and I was easily walking away. I shut down once I was 3-4 cars ahead. These guys were really cool. (I was at 12psi) (S2000 had a driver and passenger)

On the way down the S2000 and the S13 played some with each other. I don't remember who won those races. I think each claimed a victory. Cause they were constantly screwin with each other.

Partial way down the cruise the group gets seperated by traffic and what not so us up ahead pull off and wait for the rest to catch up. This allowed some of the other canidates to get up front.

As we were pulled off, the Silver 240z with the Small block chevy stuffed into it went ahead. The group took off once it was together and as we were catching up to the Silver Z, which had pulled off, I flash my lights to signal them to get going cause we were right behind them. And they hit it coming out of the hole... mmm sounded so nice.

As we cruise up next to them. Terry's wife, Ellen was driving. She's fucking hot... plus she knows how to drive this damn car. That's even more of a turn on. Lemme give ya quick background on this Silver Z. You pop the hood and you see a dirty old Chevy sitting inside. Nothing pretty about it. Except when it fires up it's all business. He ran 11.5 in the 1/4 mile with open exhaust, slicks and race gas spinning the first 100ft off the line. He was running just Race gas on the drive. (Later Terry told me that in the configuration he was using for the drive, it'd only knock off .3-.4 tenths off his time, so he says it'd still pull low 12s)

Driving along next to them, Elle guns it to rev it. Signaling their intentions... Me and my buddy just go "oh shit." It was on now. Traffic cleared for us. I ended up being on their right side, them being in the left lane now. Coming up to a light, I turn my boost down to 10psi. I wanted to try to launch controlably. Light goes green, I get on it.. they right next to me. I shift to 2nd.. they're pulling away slightly (they have traction issuses too) I go to reach for my boost controller and to kick it back up to 15psi. But I click it over one too many clicks, which is easy to do.. and I end up shutting off my boost controller which resets back to 7psi (stock). I click it back one, and 15psi comes back to life instantly. And by 3rd gear I'd stopped their pull. This happened all within... 2 seconds so they didn't get too far. Maybe a car and half. Dammit.

Round 2... ding!

I wasn't about to go down that easy. No sir. No way. I leave it at 15psi this time. We come to another light, he's slightly ahead. As I come up to the light I shift down to 1st gear. Just as I stop the light goes green catching us both off guard. I gun it.. giving me the jump. Elle feathers the throttle to get off the line but mashes gas soon as shes rolling. I shift to 2nd gear, and so do they. They're automatic so their 2nd gear has great midrange pull, coupled with 4.11 gears it's fast! They start to pull ahead just slightly, my nose was at their door. I shift to 3rd, and I stop their pull... they shift up to 3rd... I start to gain back some ground. I shift up to 4th and stay in it ... I pull them going up hill I get half a car length... and we shut it down at about 105-110mph.

Phew... that got the blood pumping. Although I must say in Terry and Elles defense. That she misshifted the auto, the linkage is kinda funky in their car. So she went to neutral for just a split second. Which gave me the slight edge through 3rd gear... even though I started to halt their advance mid way through 3rd. Still that was a fun race! Fastest car I've raced bar-none.

As we started to slow down, they coast past us. Terry sitting shotgun, his wife driving. He gives us the motion with his fist to his eyes like he's crying. When pull up to them and I motion to them the Wayne's World "We're not worthy" hand motion. Extremely good times are had by all!

Everybody saw the race, my buddy in the 350z said he was to the floor and we were just walking away exponentially. We get to where we're gonna stop. We pull into the parking lot over looking Dana Point Harbor. I step out, Terry steps out...

Me: God your car is fast!!
Terry: What about your car? That little shit is quick!

We hung out for about an hour, then decided to part our ways. So me, Terry in the Silver Z, and my buddy Quoc in the other 240z. Take off and hop on I-5. We had to stop for gas a few exits up, Quoc's gas gauge doesnt work so he wanted to make sure he had enough gas.

Back on the freeway we're crusing along. We got into a few skirmishes with Terry (who was now driving) on the freeway. I own the top end, but he's still effin quick! Anywho... old Integra. Looked like a '92. Comes racing past us. I take the initiative to go play. I'm at 15psi, no mercy, sitting next to him I let him know I wanna run.

He gets on it, and I keep it in 5th and not downshift. So boost comes on slow, but it hits and I just walk past easily. This we got on Film I know for sure.

Skip ahead, I took my buddy home. Driving back, I'm cruising along tired from all the racing and the driving in general. This guy in a new style Neon (Non SRT4) with a big wing and some rims comes past. I'm tempted... tempted to play. But we come to a light and I figure nah. So llight goes green and I take off rather normally. He takes off kinda quick and each time I shift he keeps going faster.

I say to myself "Don't tempt me duder..." I creep up on him, and he jets off. "Ok, lets bait this guy" I say. I creep on him again in 5th gear. Acting like that's allmy car has. He guns it and jets off. I downshift to 4th.. and creep up on him acting like that's all my car has. He again jets off. Heheh... A light up ahead goes red, but by the time I get there, it turns green so I roll through in 2nd gear, I go to third and he comes up next to me and trys to jet off again. But I hold him next to me. I can see the "hmmm must go faster!" look on his face. He downshifts to try to out pace me like he had before... I gun it in 3rd gear with no boost hesitation and proceed to put 5 bus lengths on him damn near instantly. I let off and shift up to 5th gear and cruise.

We came to a light, and he's all...

Dude: MAN what's in that thing? < Smiling
Me: SR20.
Dude: ... < no smiling
Dude: ... I'm stock. < still not smiling
Me: Whatever gets the job done right?
Dude: Yeah! you're right! < smiling again

I eventually get home... and sleep. Yay!

Cliff notes:
I'm sorry, but the Cliff notes are out of order. A repair man is on his way.

Good kill. Telling people you have a stock car is not cool though. That makes people, like me, want to sell my car. Can't wait for the vids.

I didn't tell him I had a stock car, I said I had a Sr20. He's the one with the stock Neon.

I'm assuming from the "no smiling"; the guy had no idea what an sr20 is.
