Question Faster Stick

I have a beater truck with a manual transmission that doesn't have a tachometer. I cant really listen to the engine because I am missing the connector pipe on my exhaust(working on getting the money) But how do I know if I am overreving? and at what point will it screw over my engine/clutch?

Re: Faster Stick

Umm...I would guess just accellerate slowly in each gear..let off the gast at a certain speed in each gear and if it really kicks u back, then you're way too far. It will just take a lot of guesswork judging by the speeds in each gear, but I think it's definitely possible. Also, the car manual might have the speeds on it, my car did.

Re: Faster Stick

most cars end 1st between 30-40 mph, 2nd between probably 50-70, 3rd in like triple digits...but like when the exhaust gets too loud to bear it when ur accelerating...shift

Re: Faster Stick

why dont you just buy an after market tachometer. or go to the junk yard and custom fit a tachometer there are some tachometers that are separated from the rest of the dash this should work. (my dad did this on his 78 Chevy LUV)

Re: Faster Stick

You dont even need a tach for just driving around. Even with out the exhaust thing you should still be able to hear when your engine wants to shift

How about just shifting when the motor stops pulling...

You should still be able to hear the engine when it wants you to shift, or you can shift when you catch up to the other cars....or buy an aftermarket tach.
