Tyson gets license to fight!!!!!!!
Mike Tyson could face Lennox Lewis in Atlanta in June, after being granted a licence to fight in Georgia.
Plans for the original bout, scheduled for Las Vegas in April, were scuppered when the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to allow Tyson back into the ring there. But Georgia's decision to licence the former champion re-opens the possibility of a showdown with Lewis. A date of 8 June has been pencilled in" Georgia spokesman Tom Mishou Georgia Boxing Commission administrator Tom Mishou told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Shelly Finkel, Mr Tyson's manager, contacted my office, he asked if I would send him a licence application that he could get Mr Tyson to fill out. "I said sure. I sent it to him, Mr Tyson filled it out, they sent me the required medicals, they sent me the money, we issued the licence." The pair were expected to share a purse in the region of $70m if the fight had gone ahead in Vegas, but the signs are that Atlanta can also offer the required windfall. WBC wants Lewis to fight Tyson next Mishou added: "I have been told by the Georgia Dome that a site fee of $13m has been put up and a date of 8 June has been pencilled in." The fight would be sure to attract a huge number of travelling fans from Britain. Tyson's manager Shelly Finkel told USA Today: "The Georgia Dome has a lot of things going for it. "There are a lot of direct flights from England to Atlanta. It's a place we're considering for the fight." Although Atlanta is now favourite to host the fight, there is still the chance of other venues being considered. Los Angeles, Manilla, South Africa and even Beiruit have been suggested as alternatives. Tyson has also applied for a licence in Texas, but has not, as yet, received a response. 'Simple procedure' USA Today reporter Dan Rafael confirmed to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Georgia is where the fight might take place - it's not done, but it's possible." "Georgia was an attractive alternative for Tyson for two reasons; it's easy for him to get a licence there and there are venues there that would be viable to do the fight." The Georgia Dome can house up to 80,000 seats for a boxing match USA Today reporter Dan Rafael Tyson was denied the chance to fight in Las Vegas due to fears over his mental state, but Rafael added: "Georgia is one of the states where the only provision for getting a licence is to be medically fit." The Georgia Dome has already staged one heavyweight world title fight, when then WBA and IBF champion Holyfield defended his belts against Vaughn Bean in September 1998. "The Georgia Dome can house up to 80,000 seats for a boxing match," Rafael said. "It is in a major metropolitan area and apparently the people down there are willing to put up millions of dollars to stage the fight. "The people of Atlanta have always adored Evander Holyfield as a local hero so I don't see any reason why they won't want this fight."

How come there are barely ever any big heavyweight fights in New York City??!
That seems like an awesome place for it to go down I'm pretty sure if Mike punched me in the head it would crack my skull and I would die ![]() aren't his hands considered "leathel weapons"??

You had to know it would happen. Tyson is such a draw and will be until is over the hill. Still there is that mystic about him. Though in this case after all he has done over the past few yeas one has to wonder when boxing in general will say enough is a enough and just ban him.
When tyson started out he was unstopable. Now he is nothing more than a brawler and bully who has not done well against top opponents and I bet Lewis will knock his silly ass out, but at the very least give him a boxing lesson like Holyfield did.
