Talking Do you know how much fuel I have left?

....Because I sure as hell don't!

I was driving back from uni, I got about 10km (trip is about 50) and my fuel gage just went from 3/4 of a tank, to below zero. I thought I sprung a leak, so I pulled over. I rang dad, he said to ring NRMA Road Service (on-road mechanics for when you break down and shit, they're awesome). They didn't show up for 2 hours (hour an 50 minutes to be exact), as it turns out, it was just my bloody fuel gage decided to stop working...

Shit happens.
ha, now I'm driving around and it's saying I have a fuel tank that's dry as a dead dingoes donga.

Re: Do you know how much fuel I have left?

hehehe, i had that problem when we bought my car, I bought a new gauge off ebay and put it in. Thankfully BMW had the foresight to put that little feature that tells me how many liters of gas I have and how far I can go on it into the onboard computer

Re: Do you know how much fuel I have left?

Had that problem with several cars. Recommendation: If your odometer works and you know the size of your tank, drive 100km to the dot and fill up. Record how much goes in and work out how much petrol you used in those 100km. Work out how many km you would theoretically get from a full tank, round down to the nearest 100 and fill up every time you hit that number.

Re: Do you know how much fuel I have left?

So just fill up when it clicks over 300.

Been there, done that. The fun of owning an old car. One time I was driving my Corolla from Jindabyne to Thredbo and the speedo went from 120km/h to past 200. It just dropped, the cable went out of the back of it. Then about 10km later it went right again. Was fcuking amusing at the time though.

Hehe. My fuel gauge is accurate, but my fuel warning light comes on when I have half a tank

Mine is accurate, but for some reason before it gets to the half mark it goes back up to full and back down...

My old bronco 2 had the same problem so I just filled up every 250 miles.... this worked until my tank started leaking. then it was anyones guess as to how much gas I had, once this happened I had to put 5 bucks worth in every time I went out. which sucked by the way.

Re: Do you know how much fuel I have left?

My Renault's fuel gauge wouldn't work when it was cold outside. I ran it dry more times than I can remember, and everybody looked at me like I was crazy when I'd push it into gas stations (it had a habbit of running out of gas about half a block from what ever station I was taking it to) - I guess I was just doing my part for reaffirming America's beliefs about French automobiles.

Re: Do you know how much fuel I have left?

My guages work but I usually run it RIGHT down..the closest I've come in the Legacy was when the light was glowing for about 40km, it was shuddering hardcore on every corner + stalled 3 times, yet I still made it to the petrol station...I guess it's different on all cars, but mine give plenty of warning

Re: Do you know how much fuel I have left?

that's fucked dude, I ran mine down a few times, but not to that extent! goddamn!

I forgot to mention in my first post, the gauge went from 3/4 to below zero in about 3 seconds (as if the engine turned off)
