Sleeper or Camaro

Hey guys I wanted your input. I have a 99 Malibu and was wondering do you think I should make a sleeper or buy a 91-91 Camaro. I kind of want a sleeper because how many of you guys have heard or seen a fast, late model Malibu? So I guess my question is build something new and unique (Malibu) or go with the already cool Camaro? Thanks

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

depends...

do you want to be origional or jump in the croud of the crowded mustangs and camaro owners? sure, they are fast, but they are a bit too popular for my likes (which explains why it's being re released in 07 to make up for the previous style's mistakes (UGGGLLY)

sleeper cars in my opinion get more respect because it shows more creativity... the malibu would just be something to go "damn man, you got own3d by a malibu" which i think is really really worth the time and effort as opposed to just buying a camaro and starting all over... you already got started on the malibu, why stop?

and what kind of gas milege does the malibu get? if it's 23+ a gallan.. make it your daily driver and buy the camaro for a speed car... depends all on the situation.

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

camaro

a 4 cyl malibu is way too hard to get any speed out of because they're so heavy for such a small engine.

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

Yep, it'd be a lot easier if you had the 3.1L pushrod V6. Still, I'm sure GM's 2.4L twin cam has a decent aftermarket; try and find a turbo or S/C kit for it, a 300 horsepower 4-banger Malibu would be hilarious :P

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

Go with a Camaro. You don't wanna mess with a Malibu. It's probably more trouble than it's worth. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

Well depends what you want the car for...

If the malibu is RWD I say keep it and go for a mad engine swap or forced induction route. Otherwise of it is FWD, torque steer is a big issue..

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

I say if you want a sleeper get a galant VR4. It will be allot easier to get going fast then the malibu and it will get allot less attenion while doing so.

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

well the same supercharger kit im getting for my Z24 will also work for your malibu. So you can still make 190-200HP easily right there.

I am going to have to say that the Malibu is probably going to cost a lot of time and money to get any speed out of it. There are a lot of other unique cars that would be great sleepers that are much better to work with than a late model Malibu. I would say don't get a Camaro and don't modify the Malibu. I would say look at your other options for a good sleeper.

I'd say go ahead an make it a sleeper, except get rid of the 2.4 and put the L67 in. Then get smaller pulley's, chip, exhaust, intake, headers and you've got yourself a nice little sleeper.

Re: Sleeper or Camaro

^ what he said, if you mod it though expect to put the budget higher then your limit.. You'd have a sleeper like you wanted though

i dont know what kind of superchager youre getting for you car...but i think that claimed increases of 225-230% might be a little ambitious...i truly hope you didnt mean that your hp will go from 150 to 340-350...hopefully i just misunderstood you...on a side note...can anyone tell me why they offered both an I4 and a V6 in the malibu that produced the exact same hp and only 16% more torque...it just doesnt make much sense to me...oh and my opinion is that a sleeper malibu is a bad idea...too much money for what you want to achieve...and like what i like to say about modified cavilers...at the end of the day its still just a malibu

Re:

I think he meant you can boost the output to that.... No positive though, and a V6 is a little more appealing than an I4 to domestic car fans, I think that's why they offered both.
