The AF Curse Strikes Back!!!

This has been a very bad day for me. I had picked up my BF from work, and I was travelling home on a 5 lane 45 mph street. Up ahead, there was a Chrysler New Yorker turning left across my lane to head in the opposite direction. He wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary so I didn't really slow as I approached the intersection. (He was just on the other side of the intersection, about 15' past it.) Well, when I was about halfway thru the intersection he STOPPED IN MY LANE!!! I slammed on the brakes and the horn, couldn't move over to the right because there was a car there. I was still going probably 25 when I hit the rear driver's side of his car with the front driver's side of mine. I was so pissed. My baby. My little car. With so many miles on it that practically anything will total it. His bumper was hanging off, and his rear panel was crunched in where the trunk is. My front panel was shredded, light was gone (thank heavens not the brand new one I put in a month ago) grill was shattered, bumper was crushed, hood was crumpled, and who knows what happened inside the engine (radiator especially). It got towed. The officer who showed up immediately saw whose fault it was and I didn't get a single ticket. The 85-yr old driver of the other car got cited for "failure to yield right of way" and I think he also got cited for turning across a double-yellow. See my lil' graphic for details.

Anyway, I've spent 4 hrs today talking with 2 insurance companies and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I have free use of a 2001 Mirage until they either give me money or money+my car. Then, when I finally got the rental I had to go to the wrecker my Sentra got towed to and clear out my stuff in case they totalled it and just took it. Then my BF was having severe back pains so we went and hung out at the hospital for like 6 hours and ended up with prescriptions for Lortab and Soma for both of us. Don't worry, I am not taking them before I drive.

Looking at the best side: I might end up with cash I can use towards a G20. And right now there are two 5-spd 1996 with spoiler and leather in Vegas, only 120 miles away. Hmmm......

Wow I'm glad you're OK. That kind of accident happens a lot on those kinds of roads because people are just not thinking things through.

Also don't anyone hate me for saying this but after 65 everyone should be tested yearly for their driving licences. then every 6 months after 75. And once you fail they have one more change to redeem themselves. My perpective changed when I saw some senile old guy run over a kid on a bike and drag him 30ft because he didn't know anything was wrong.

Old people shouldn't be on the roads period! It is a good thing you're ok, that's what's important - but I'm sure it hurts to see your car in that kind of state. I keep my eyes out all the time for cars veering into my lane coming out of a turn and it happens often like G said.

Hey, I think EVERYONE should be on-the-road tested every five years, not just vision tested. I think it's obious that people's driving techniques and habits change over the course of time, and they're gradually going to forget certain laws.

What do you think? I am leaning towards the more expensive one because it's pearl and doesn't have leather (too sticky in summer here) but it doesn't have a sunroof.

I would, but I'm too poor. I was not prepared for buying a new car at this time...and I'll be lucky if they give me $2000 for my Sentra. As it is I recently moved out of my parents' house and am paying rent and all the joy that comes with it. (Utilities, laundry, etc.) There's no way I can spend more than $10000. And with that I will be financing a lot.

Sorry to hear about that, it makes my ding in the back of my car sound real trivial!! Just be glad your all okay as material things can be replaced (if you cant tell i've been in a few BAD accidents and luckily came out alright ... i finke!!). At least you can buy a new car!! Take both cars out for a test drive and then decide.

Darn darn darn they are already sold. Unfortunately, the infamous Abused G20 is now for sale for $6200 and it is tempting me. I must be strong! They haven't even told me how much I'm getting yet but I am going for 'pain and suffering' because I've had the same splitting headache and neckache since Monday.

I HATE PEOPLE WHO CAN'T UNDERSTAND SIMPLE TRAFFIC RULES!

Like for example: Don't drive in front of someone who is doing 45mph in their paid-for car. It's so not fair. I would not be so angry if the accident was caused by weather or a curvy road or some such, but I am just biting mad about this senile moron's blatant disregard for humanity. I hope I don't see him again, because my Doc Martens are going into "kicking mode". Today's my 20th birthday and this week has been living hell for me. I was supposed to go spend 3 days playing in Vegas next Mon-Wed, but that probably won't happen now. (I know, I'm still not old enough to do any "Vegas Stuff" anyway.)

Thanks for your support, guys. If you have any tips for dealing with insurance companies, let me know.

Soon-to-be owner of a 1996 5-spd G20 in Black, Silver, Pearl, or White come HELL or HIGHWATER!!!

Emily
