Question Transmission Service P71

I have no Idea when the last time the transmission was serviced, and the car has almost 118k miles on it. Ford ran the VIN # on my car, and it has no history report. Supposedly because it was a police cruiser.
Where is most reliable place to have tranny serviced, meaning the dealership or AMCO transmission or similar? Right now the tranny shifts like a dream and I'd hate to have someone screw it up on me. Since it is a police interceptor tranny, do I need a tech familiar with the type tranny I have? "Suchs" I don't even know what kinda tranny is in the car other than it is a 4 speed. Please advise!

Thanks,
Gary T

Re: Transmission Service P71

Just because it was a police cruiser don't mean it didn't get any maintenance.
As a fleet operator, we discovered a very intense maintenance schedule is the only way to get any value from our cars. On average, our police cruisers recieve better maintenance than the average civillian car does. Oil and filter changes every 3000 miles, transmission services and flushing every 27,000 miles. Tire rotations and brake inspections, etc. Poor maintenance costs everybody in the long run.

Hey Gary. You have a 4R70W transmission. I agree with the post by SAMW. I too manage a fleet of Cruisers. We service our transmissions every 20,000 miles due to the abuse Police will give the vehicle.
