Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

Hello everyone, first time poster here.
I just recently bought a 04 Mach 1, does anyone know of some upgrades that I could do to get that extra push? It's rated at about 305-315 hp depending on the source. I would like to get it to around 400 or 400+. Any suggestions?

Re: Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

the car is underrated, and you will see 12's with a midpipe and gears. 400 you will have to go FI because the cams, intake and heads are almost the cream of the crop.

Re: Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

i seen alot of mach 1's with K&N intake kits. Get exhuast (off-road x or h but if u want it legal u will have to get the high flow cat x or h). the gear ratio in the machs are 3.55 i belive but if u want u can go up to 3.73, 4.10s.

It's just more economical to supercharge rather then turbocharge a Mach 1. Personally, I would love to turbo my car, and I think others will have the same thoughts.

Re: Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

I understand what your saying. I really want to turbo my ride once I gain the money. I considered the differences in turbo/sc for the stang, and I noticed the differences. The turbo will give me much better results, and from what I was told lag isnt as much of an issue on a high displacement car, as compared to a four banger. The other big difference I noticed is pricing. S/C kits can be puchased at decent prices, whereas a turbo can either be purchased as a very expensive kit, or bought as individual parts, which would include building custom parts.

And im done

Re: Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

Also, if anyone else here is interested you can check out turbomustangs.com. It is a site I found while doing my research. They dont sell kits, they are just an knowledge Bank with links to companies selling mustang Turbo applications. The kits are way over priced, but they give you an idea of what would be needed/involved in a project.

#1 Cost there are no good cheap turbo or TT kits for Mustangs. Although they are coming down slowly they are still much more highly priced than S/C.

#2 Much more work involved in installing a turbo than compared to a S/C. Also something greatly overlooked every turbo set-up needs to be dyno tuned cause it is based on engine load and not rpm like a S/C so even 2 cars with exact same turbo kit needs a completely different dyno tune. So that adds to the money and complexity. A S/C is not as dependant from a dyno tune although it does benefit.

#3 Availability, choice, reliablility. This refers to the turbo Mustang scene more than turbo systems. There have been many fly by night rip-off scams when it comes to turbo systems for Mustangs. The truth is the Mustang turbo market in a kit form is very very sketchy scene.

#4 The superiority of turbo's gets lost a lil in the Mustangs scene. What good is it to have a TT kit on a Mach1 that yes can make 50-60hp more than a S/C on stock internals for extra $1,000-3,000 etc.., The biggest superiority of this TT kit is that it can make a 1,000hp but not on the stock internals. Yes I know you oculd get the TT to make max psi faster tehn the centrifugal S/C but is that really worth all the extra cash?

So yes turbo set-ups I admit are superior set-ups and I will have one on my current stang. But there is a lot fo drawbacks to them in the Mustang world. Hence why S/C are always mentioned before.

Re: Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

Oh I never said it diddnt have it's problems, just kinda wanted to find a way to introduce the scene to other enthusiasts.

As for you turboing your stang...is that for real? If so we should talk because it is something I might be considering...as a long term project. Some times things can be harder and not as fun, but if you will enjoy owning it/working for it/on it.... then thats all that matters.

Yes I'm going to TT my stang at some point(maybe this winter maybe not till a year, money ownz me!!) I have not decided if I'm going kit, make it myself, or pay a guy I trust to build it for me.

MM&FF: Supercharged 03 Mach 1: 11.92 at 120.21 mph on Nitto Drag Radials Is that fast enough for you?

http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...s/0311mm_mach/

I also prefer turbos over superchargers. I was looking through autotrader a few days ago and saw a guy selling a turbocharged 351 Mustang. F-A-S-T

Anyway, about your goal of 400 hp, I would go with a full exhaust and maybe some mild cams. I would also improve the intake, bigger maf, throttle body etc. I don't think it will quite get you to 400 though, but you should be close.

Re: Possible Mach 1 upgrades?

Yeah i am like turbos alot more then s/c's and just like the adjustablity of a turbo (boost contoller) versus taking the blower pulley off and changing it with another one for more boost. I hanvt really liked the fact that it runs off the crank but they are still amazing none the less and one of the biggest bangs for the buck.
