need head gaskets

whats up guys my head gaskets are starting to go so i just wanna replace em before they blow can someone explain to me how to rip apart the top end of a carburated 350 so i can just change em myself b/c i don't rly feel the need to go to a shop and pay over a grand to do it, plus i might have to sell the maro soon anyways (yes it sucks ass ) but i have no where to park it in the winter so that rly sucks. im hopin not to have to sell it tho b/c i love this car

um i dont know ive always thought it was common sense taking things apart you just gota make sure you dont lose anything and remember how you did it , you got a book on your car dont you? its in there.... but just take off the carb , intake manafold , remove headers but i think your gonig to run into problems with space i dont know how much space you got under your hood . then just remove the bolts in your heads near the rockers and uhhhi turned my engine over so your gunan have to find a way to get them off prolly pry them off but im sure ive missed some things so go over your book

get a manuel. its as simple as grabing a socket set and a couple sets of wrench's, a roll of tape and a sharpie. label it all as you take it off, and go from there.

Get a manuel, cause ill be god damned if im going to explain the whole thing.

Getting a manual would be easier but heres the order inwhich I did all mine in: Remove the distributor, disconnect the gas lines and all that stuff (electrical wires as well) but remember where all it goes, intake manifold next with the carb still attached (no need to take carb off manifold), take the roller rockers off the heads, take the push rods out, unbolt the headers, then take the head off. It would be a good idea to mark the roller rockers and push rods and put them back in the same hole/same stud it came off of. Thats it.

1)Sparkplug wires/Distributor
2)Gas Lines/electrical
3)Intake
4)roller rockers of heads (marking which stud they came off of)
5) Push Rods (marking which hole they came off of)
6)Headers
7)heads
8) rinse and repeat

Egg crates work pretty good for holding rockers and stuff in order so that you can put them back in the right order on the right stud with the right pushrod. Just cut the top off of the edd carton and set one side with the cups up and one side with the cups down. set the rockers in one and poke a hole the the cups of the carton pointing up so you can slide your pushrods in the hole to hold them. This way you dont loose and and they stay in order. It is very important that you keep all moving/touching parts in order and put them back in the right places with the right parts. They have developed a wear pattern and if you chane that pattern bad things can/will happen. Just a handy little tip.

thanks man shit i thought this would be an easy job like just unbolt the heads and take em off looks like either this friday or next friday my only day off from work ima be in my garadge all day

Are you ordering head studs or did you mean head bolts?

If you mean't studs which are better than head bolts* I'd check with some one who did them on a 3rd Gem Camaro before. Cause a lot of cars Fox Mustangs being one you can not get the heads back on with the engine in the car with heads studs if everything in the engine bay is in the stock location.

the hardest part is adjusting the valves (i think) if you dont do it right your either gonna collapse a lifter or wipe the cam or its not gonna run.. so make sure you do that right and double check it
