You won't gain too much, 10hp or so.

It's only a 305... the bore and stroke on those motors is kinda crappy. Also the stock heads don't flow for poop.

If you spend money on this motor, the great thing is you can always throw a 350ci motor in the truck later on for better performance. And the intake and other goodies can bolt right on it.

I have had both on my 350. As far as Hp/torque differences between the two, I have no idea, but out of the two I found the Torker to be better

Re: performer vs. torker

The only thing that 305 in your truck has going for it is that it's installed in a fairly light vehicle. Like Redneck said, the bore/stroke on the 305's is junk, and the heads are crap. You might seriously think about doing an engine swap from your 305 to a 350. es 350's are generic, but it's hard to mess with perfection

It would most likely be a waste of money and time to install parts on that motor, I don't know your financial situation, but maybe keep a motor swap in mind.

Re: performer vs. torker

well, i know the 305 has a bad rep, but most people think of the crappy smog 305's that redline at like 4000 and peak hp is like 165. i have the HO, which isnt a racing engine by any means, but right now my engine is putting out about 210 hp, which is better than some stock 350s. but thanks anyways for the reply but i see that most people on this site are 350 or nothing.

Yeah, a stock 350 from 1977.

Trust me, look in any performance catalog like Jegs, Summit Racing or Pace Performance. For $1300 you can buy a bare bones 350ci motor that makes 250hp out of the box. Add a Intake, 4bbl carb, and headers and you've got 280hp easy on 89 octane.

350s rock your face.

Re: performer vs. torker

yes i will admit that most 305s suck, and 350s are a very very good engine to build up. but 305s are not as people think, most people(like yourself) compare the shitty smog 305s to a race 350. but i know a guy who has a 350 in a 1500, and it was dynoed at 165, so no im not talking abotui the 350s from the 70's, and a 305 can be built up to produce alot of hp, its been done.

so...... 305's rock YOUR face

hahah...jk

There's about 10 fans of the 305 living in the world today, and I think we found one. laf.

yah i used to have a 305 "h.o." in my truck. Its no comparison to a 350 sorry. I got my 350 long block for 895 from a local performance shop, and it has a mild cam. I had my edelbrock carb and intake from before and just switched them onto the 350 someone said earlier. Its putting out about 300 hp.
