How much paint?
Now I finally got round to ordering some decent putty my R34 skyline gtr with sas nismo kit is under way. I want to spray it Tamiya pure white ts-26 which is a 100ml can. On my previous models i used auto spray paint which was 300ml and used about 2/3 - a full can of a can. Would i get away with 2 100ml tamiya cans. Also would it be better to use tamiya clear with tamiya paint.

Re: How much paint?
Yes it would be a good idea to use tamiya clear with tamiya paint. And i find that i only have to use 1 can of tamiya spray paint for each model. Its your call though.

Re: How much paint?
200ml is a lot of paint to lay down on a model.
On a good paint job, I can get a model sprayed with 2/3 of a Tamiya can.

Re: How much paint?
with a Tamiya spray paint, you are ok for about 8 mish coat. Which could be 2 model or near 3

Tamiya's claim that you can paint 2 cars with their sprays is just too generous. You'd be surprised how much paint a model can take without loosing detail. If you do even light sanding between coats you could get one car body per can. I'm currently spraying the Yamaha Red Bull bike and I've started on the second can of mica blue. In the end I'll use between 1 1/2 to 2 cans of it followed by clear.,

Re: How much paint?
2 can on a bike ? geezz that too much
take a look at my model, no more than 4 coat of paint on them and usually I can make 2 kit with a can with color that cover nicely (non transparant color ie: red yellow white)

Re: How much paint?
I find that I use well over a can on a single 1/24th scale model. It depends if you are just diong the bodyshell or if the chassis, wings, rollcage, mirrors, intakes and other things need to be painted the same colour too. A lot of that is waste using it straight from the can. Decanting and using a airbrush makes much more efficient use of the paint.

If you use gray and white primer, you'll only need 4 coats of white like Vric suggested. When working with a body kit, you have to unify the smoothness and color between the resin parts and plastic parts before applying the body color. Apply two coats of gray after body prep is done. And white paint isn't quite opaque enough to hide the gray surface, so apply 2 coats of white primer. After the body is evenly white, apply gloss white to add sheen to it. Clear coat is recommended, but not a must. |
