Cobalt SS tuning question

So im planing on getting a Cobalt SS (Seems like the perfect project car) the only thing disapointing is the lack of HP with the SC (Question: why not jsut put the supercharger on the 2.2 or the 2.4?) So my plan was to get about...275-300 HP out of the thing, It may be hard cuz theres arnt going to be many custom parts for the cobalt for a while. But can someone suggjest how to do that without switching the supercharger?

Another question, How much does a port and polish And a bore and stroke normaly cost?

How much do you guys think i can bore and stroke the 2.0 ecotec?

Thanks!

Re: Cobalt SS tuning question

well 205HP on that small of a car is going to make a good low 15s high 14's second stock 1/4mile time. But your right that their arent going to be many mods for it for a lil bit. I think the easiest and best thing you could do for more horsepower is put a bigger pulley on the supercharger. This will make the supercharger produce more boost=more power. You could prolly get anywhere from 10-30HP increase from putting a bigger wheel on it.

Re: Cobalt SS tuning question

yep i was planning on doing that, also put some stroke in it cuz it bothers me they put the SC on the 2.0 instead of the 2.4

The reason they did they is prolly cuz its geared twords the younger crowd it would be hard to convinse the parents to but their 16-17 year old a 250+ HP car, ya know?

First of all it's a mid to high 14 second car
Second larger pulley less boost Smaller pulley more boost
More boost=More power
so you gave the guy the wrong information
According to you he's going to get a larger pulley and then run those times that you stated

Re: Cobalt SS tuning question

the reason they picked the 2.0 is that they could get it to rev a lot higher than they could get the 2.2 to rev, this gave them a lot more top end power which gives them better numbers to sell the car with. the 2.2 gave them nice low end torque, but nobody buys sport compacts based on their torque numbers anymore.

Re: Cobalt SS tuning question

The cobalt is not a platform that was created for modding, so my suggestion is to seriously beef up the bottom end of that engine and then hit it with about a 50-hp shot of nitrous. Other than that I might suggest one or two more psi from the blower, but go gently on it. Its not an engine that was over-developed for strength or anything.

300 hp is probably not something that you want to plan on with an ecotec if you want an engine to last more than 40k. Big booms tend to happen at that level. Shoot for a nice even 250, but make sure your ignition curve, fuel curve, and fuel pump are in perfect condition when you tune the ECM.

Re: Cobalt SS tuning question

I have a friend with a redline. Doesn't have the gm upgrade or anything just a test pipe, custom down, injectors, and tune. We like in high altitude (CO) and he is pushing 246. the tuning was a pain though. I think 300 can be reached but reach carfuly
